Well I'm not sure where to put this pic..Its a little experiment I did this spring with 3 noid av's from the supermarket that I could never get to bloom again..lol..so I got tired of trying so I thought what the heck and stuck them all in a pot together and set them out on my front porch(faces west bright shade all day with just a peek of direct sun late afternoon)..thought if they lived they lived..lol..well they more than lived..their foliage looks a little ragged in spots from the birds..lol..but they are now blooming their pretty heads off..too bad I can't do that with all my av's...I know these will be history with the 1st frost..I just can't chance bringing them back in the house this fall..For now I will just enjoy the blooms : )
How nice, nancy!!!!!!! Don't ya just love breaking all the rules when it comes to planting!
I didn't get an answer on the hoya forum but thought I might be able to here..........we have so many people who do grow hoyas here.
Look closely at the top of this picture and see the size the bloom is going to be on this one. Lin, I know I sent you some of this one........
**I have to go get the settings on my camera set right..........she has several of these giant blooms. When I bought her in 4" containers I was told that she blooms red?????
Thanks Gail..lol..yes I love thinking outside the box with plants..Hey thats a cool looking Hoya..I love those leaves..can't help identify it tho..if mine didn't already have tags no way I could remember what they were....
Nancy, how fun to get those blooms outside. Very pretty.
Thank Sally..Now if I could only get my inside av's to follow suit..lol..maybe I need to take each one outside and show them what they are supposed to do..
Oooh, Ooooh, Gail ... That looks like Hoya imperialis, known as the honey hoya: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57692/ OH MY GOODNESS ... Yes, you did send me that one and it has grown but no blooms yet, no sign of any peduncles! Man, I can't wait to see a pic of your bloom when it opens! That is a nice one! I will be really excited when mine decides to bloom! Love it!
edited to say: and those flowers are said to be very fragrant!

Lin, everytime I go to that nursery in Seguin that I love so much........I will continue to look for more of the 4" pots. I posted on the hoya forum, too..........you are right........it is Hoya imperialis.
Nancy, I can tell that you don't have our good ole Texas fertilizer from Beorne...............will add that to my list..............it works wonders on blooming anything........outside or inside........
Gail I am terrible at remembering to fertilize..especially with my outside plants..and most of the time with my inside ones too..I really hate to admit that!!
Gail: I am so excited that your Hoya is getting ready to bloom! Thats gonna be a nice one too! I sure hope mine grows some bloom spurs soon! Has yours been on your porch or out in the trees? Mine was inside until recently and I moved it out to the deck. I'm hoping the brighter light and fresh air will get it going!
LOL, Nancy ... you sound like me! I am trying to get better about feeding my plants inside and out and have gotten a little bit better at it but still don't have a regular schedule like I should ... it's kinda just when I think about it and don't get sidetracked doing something else!
Lin, a big group of them have been hanging in the trees all summer. This is one of them and all have bloomed from being out there and getting quite a bit of filtered sun all day.......a lot of sun.................Those on the porch have not bloomed at all............I may, just for fun, go sit them on the ground at the base of a big tree for more sun...............
Nancy, habits are nothing more than habits. I wouldn't even think of watering my inside plants without feeding them every single time. The outside plants get a good feeding at least once a month...........
Beautiful Lilies jannich..I can't get over how many buds you have yet to open on them..looks like a bridal bouquet : )
That is awesome, jannich! and White to Boot!!!!! Never get tired of white blooms
This is called "Florida Hibiscus". It is grown mostly for it's foliage but also has an orangish red bloom. I have three good starts off from it if anyone would like one. She is not hardy here and I always keep one over winter with my indoor plants , but will have to do something with the starts.
I have loved seeing everyones pictures. great growin' everyone.
Lou
Very nice Lou! I have one called "Red Hot" Hibiscus: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/46827/ looks like it is the same one! And I was in Home Depot or Lowes a few days ago and they had one that looks just like it called "Fire and Ice": http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/43253/
Lou, they had that one, too..........the foliage is just beautiful along with the pretty bloom.
Sally: That is a lovely arrangement. I adore the little bunny, he just completes that scene!
Thank you. He is faded. I have had him outside for about 6 years. He doesn't mind.
Thank you ladies. That is my all round favorite lily.Formosa lily is its name It's almost a wildflower here in Al.Putting out hundred of seeds and they blow in the wind and grow everywhere.Mines about 5 feet all but I have seen them much taller..Anyone what some seeds in a month or so just send me a d-mail.I wish I had the nerve to go dig them up along the road sides.LOL.

Lou,I love your florida hibiscus, maybe we can stick up a trade for one of your starts:)
Sally love your flowers and the bunny..
Jannich- I would love some seeds. Do they bloom the first year? Of course I'll trade you the hibiscus for any of your seedlings that you have. I love all the streps and sinns. Lou
Sally, i just lovel that table!!!
Where is Gail? I hope she is OK.
I'm jeolous, Sally! Your patio looks great!
I got a message from Gail . . . I don't know anything about shingles (except from what I've learned here), but the kind she has doesn't stop hurting after it dries up . . . she is having problems getting good sleep because it hurts.
Oooooh! I really need to keep up on this thread….I’m missing all the good stuff!
Gorgeous flowers everyone. Not much is still blooming here.
Sally you have a gorgeous yard. Mine will never look like that I know. We moved into this place about 9 years ago and it was a wild pasture back then. Have had to start from scratch. Might not have been to bad when I was young, oh well. I do what I can.
Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun'
av girl, beautiful photos!!
GOSH, how bad for Gail not sleeping and having pain. SO SORRY Gail.
So Sad to hear about you're not sleeping, Gail. Is there a cure for shingle? I never read Syrumani's post before I started posting pictures. I wasn't just ignoring it. I wish there was something we could do to help. I wondered why I hadn't seen you on here for a couple days.
Roxy
I had wondered too, so I sent her a message. She says it's not the shingles themselves - they're dried up, but nerves deep down . . . don't know if there is much that can be done for nerves, except let it finish running it's course.
I feel so bad for what Gail is going through right now. I have never had shingles but members of my family have and believe me it can be pretty bad. Gail apparently is now going through the Postherpatic Neuralgia: http://www.drpodell.org/shingles-treatment.shtml, the nerve pain that can come after the rash has faded. Some people endure this awful pain for years. I hope her doctor is able to prescribe a medication that will help her past this terrible malady real soon.
Hello to all my nice good faithful friends!! I am hoping there might be a light at the end of this tunnel ..............last night and today have been my best times so far. Gosh, Lin is smart. That is exactly what he called that I have. He says 6 months to a year but God is always good and if I can manage the pain like I am now (with new meds) I am a happy camper.
Just getting to sleep 6 hours at a time at night is a joyful celebration for me!
I miss all of you so much.........felt so good I planted all my sinningia speciosa seeds from The Gesneriad Society!
Love seeing everyone's pictures. Maybe tomorrow I can take some inside ones to share..........
Confession time: I am addicted to my friends on DG!!!!!!!!
Have a great day!
..You sure have been missed!..Good to see you posting again Gail...hoping you are right as rain in less time than even the dr thinks....I know what you mean..if ever I miss even a few days I start having DG withdrawals if I can't check in :o
Gessie- I'm glad the meds are working. They wouldn't give me any because they are hard on the innards and might cause trouble with my bleeding ulcer. I couldn't even think straight for the pain. You are coming along great. Hope that nerve heals quickly. We love to see all the pictures you post. You are my idol grower and when I grow up I want to be a good grower like you.LOL
I am glad you have had some better time lately, Gail. I sure hope it continues and you heal much quicker than expected.
