I have a pink mandevilla that has survived several (5) New Orleans winters but has become very wild and woody for the bottom 3/4 of the plant and has foliage only in the top section. I have never trimmed it back or thinned it. It has stopped flowering now and has clustered all over the top of its 4 ft. trellis and as a result is quite entangled. I was trying to find a way to cut it back so it could start all over again but did not want to kill it. I don't think a taller trellis would solve anything as it would become unsightly due to the woody lower growth..
Any thoughts?
Mandevilla Question
I'm not sure if my answer is correct or not, but I did trim mine back every spring and it comes back fuller and fuller every year. I have the yellow though.
