I have a bunch of potted Impatiens. Some are doing ok - some are not. I noticed this morning that some plants have some yellow leaves. They did NOT have any yellow leaves yesterday. Yesterday I fed them with Miracle Grow and noticed when I did that in some pots the soil was really dry and the plant was drooping. I watered them all with the miracle grow, now today some have these yellow leaves. Do you think the Miracle Grow could have burned the roots some since the soil was so dry? Will they come back again to the beautiful plants they were?
Also, I have a hanging double Impatiens that has looked yellowish and kinda droppy since I bought it. When I purchased it the lady at the garden center said it was that way because it didn't like the cool spring we were having but now its been in the 80's most of the time and the dang thing STILL looks like that and it doesn't seem to be growing! Flowers some but doesn't grow! What's up with this thing?
Thanks

Help With Impatiens
My guess would be fert burn - they should recover. It is easy to burn them with Miracle Grow - at least in my opinion.
I have noticed that impatients like sun but not to much. I give mine morning sun but try to keep them out of the hot afternoon sun - before I realized this I had them in both (sun situations) and the ones in the hot afternoon sun were just how you described above.
good luck!

Definitely could be the fertilizer, when the plant is really dry like that it can burn the roots easier. But just water stress on its own could cause yellowing leaves too, impatiens don't like to dry out all the way so even without the fertilizer you could have run into something similar. I'd try and water a little more frequently, don't drown it but don't let it completely dry out in between watering either.
Was just wondering how your impatients are doing? Are they hanging pots? Just a fyi, most potted plants use a lightweight potting mix made up of mostly spag. moss and if it dries out, it is very hard to water it because it doesn't absorb the water. You might want to take the whole pot and put it into a bucket of water let it sit until the top is wet and is absorbed from the bottom up. (Don't let the water in the bucket go over the top of the pot) Pull out of the bucket and let drain.
Another fyi (you probably know by now) When you want to fertilize your potted plants, make sure they are a bit damp first. I don't use Miracle Grow on my plants. It's a synthetic fertilizer which breaks down into salts in you pots. Those salts are harmful to plants. If you do fertilize frequently flush the pot with water and let drain. I use an organic fertilizer. If you still want to use Miracle Grow only use 1/2 the dosage it says. Hope this helps. Good luck

ps: I almost forgot if you grow them in sun, (they prefer shade) water them every day.
