Tomato plant problems.

Carlisle, PA

Hi all,

I am having serious problems. I dont have a garden, but I am trying to grow just a few plants. They seem to be getting scars and lesions on them. I did get one tomato to start, but it quickly rotted. Hopefully the pictures will come out ok. I would appreciate any help. I am a newbie to this growing stuff.

it looks like stem rot caused by white mold. Im not sure if your standard fungicide will take care of it or not . im not able to find much information on the subject. maybe also could be cause by slugs ? im not sure.

Assuming that it is a fungus, make a paste of baking soda and water. Using a swab if possible (getting it on your fingers or gloves could spread it) apply it directly on one or two lesions and keep doing it for a few days. See what happens. If it heals the lesion, and the plant purks up, drench One plant with a mist of baking soda and water. Don't forget to do under the leafs too! ( One Tablespoon of baking soda to 1 gallon of water). You might add a teaspoon of dish soap to a gallon of soda/water mix to help it stick to the plant. If this plant gets better, its probably safe to apply to all of them. This is an old standby that I used on my tomatoes and cucumbers last summer. Hope it works for you.
