Good one on the Woodcock, very difficult bird to see on the ground!
Can't make those two out with the Bobolink; not juv Bobolinks as they're like the females. Maybe Eastern Meadowlarks?? Any options on getting a better pic?

Daily Pics Vol. 124
Great to get a woodcock picture. We usually see the spring mating flight near us, but more sound than sight.
They are so wonderful!!
Resin I thought about Eastern Meadowlarks, too. Would they hang out together? I may try pics again tomorrow but the stay way far from the road. I have a scope I could try.
Uh-oh!!
Thats a beautiful parrot!
Is it a ring-necked?
Crazybirdlady..thanks..the Cuckoo was a bonus for me as I had just about given up hope of finding one. I read that they are often heard but seldon seen so we are both lucky to get a shot! I know there is someone on Dave's that can help with your posting pics. To post a pic I click on browse below, then click on My Pictures (where I store the ones I want to share), type in the name and click on open. If that doesn't work for you please let us know so we can help. I also downsize my pics to medium as some people have dial-up and it is faster for them.
Boojum...That Woodstock is adorable and I went Bobolink crazy this spring trying to find one...I'm sure I will go nuts again this fall trying to spot one!
Nanny...Your pics look wonderful...congratulations!
Burn...Indeed...a sweet Mourning Dove!
Kniphofia...What a surprise, looks like someone's pet escaped?
Here is a Blue Grosbeak ID'd by Resin as a first year male, another unexpected shot!
Resin, you took the words from my fingertips. Gary, the colour of the Swamphen isn't exaggerated. It is a stunningly coloured bird. They have great long toes, like the jacana. When the Swamphen walks, the white underside of its tail flicks up and down. Some of them are quite tame.
Thanks Rose and pelle. Rose the bluebirds are just so beautiful.
Nanny the expression on the juvenile Cardinal is so funny. Yeah, just like a gawky teenager.
Nice shots of the Moorhens, Gary. They do look similar to the ones we have here, but I think the face shield is more pronounced on yours.
Boojum, it's not a crummy picture. I can't recall seeing a Woodcock before.
Kniphofia, I can imagine your surprise. It has to be an escapee. Check the lost and found sections as it may be someone's beloved pet.
Great pics all!
knip, I have heard that Green parrots are surviving in the wild here but in the south, you are far north! Could be an escapee, I wonder if it could be captured.

Seems like the Ring-necked Parakeet has extended it's range to further north, other escapees also surviving.

My little Wren has babies in the neighbours nest box, it's on the wall of an old wash house. They look well feathered, this was 4 days ago.
wallaby, what a lovely, cosy space for the wrens.
Nanny, your last shot is a beauty. The lighing is just gorgeous.
Yes my first thought was that the parrot was an escapee, but apparently there are 5000 of these ring necked parakeets naturalised in the UK. They are commoner in the south but the RSPB websites reports that they have been spotted in every county up to the Scottish borders. So it must be a wild bird. I emailed the photo to work and everyone was fascinated :)
I went out to see the bobolinks this AM with a scope and they were very far away and hunkered down in the grasses. I spotted a few males but all the yellow birds were no where to be seen. Guess they knew I'd be back to ID them!
Shocking to think of budgies as wild birds!
Aww, very cute boojum!
That Ring-necked Parakeet is by far most likely to be a local escapee, not one moving up from down south. The thousands are nearly all in the west end of London (Kew Gardens is a good place to see them), and they never fly long distances.
Looked up on Birdguides, the Ashington bird has been around since 25 June, first reported then. There was also one in Ponteland on 9 June, likely to be a different bird. Further south, there's been 7 in Hartlepool recently; as there were just 3 there last year it looks like they bred there this year.
Resin
Nice pics guys!
rntx,I love the Yellow crowned Night Heron!
You should be grateful!!
