October Round-Up in south-western New Hampshire

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

So, if I were to hold a Round Up here in New Hampshire on October 11 or 18, would anyone be interested in attending? We have gotten permission from the DSIL, all we need now are you guys to come and have fun and trade plants and allow Anna to give of some of hers that will need thinning.

Do I have any takers?

Oh my goodness, I must have caught this the minute you sent it out. I’d love to come.

I will certainly love to be there--either date is good at this moment, but the 18th will probably avoid Columbus Day traffic--on the other hand, those who work might like the extra day!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

If we make it Columbus Day weekend, then the trees here will be at peak. Or they should be anyway. Makes for a beautiful drive.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Hmmm....I would love to come by. THe timing might not work out since it's DH's 40th birthday on the 11th (he's muuch older than I......ok, ok - I can't lie - only 5 years) and our anniverary a few days before so we might be taking a bit of a vacation around that time. But put me down as interested and I'll see what I can do...

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, No!!!! We are likely going to be going out to Denver to see our new grandchild in early October. From there, we'll head down to Fla. OH NO!!! It looks like I will miss your RU, Candyce. I'm so bummed!!! I think we're leaving on the 8th. Ugh Ugh Ugh. If that plan changes and we are here until later in the month, I'm a definite yes!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats a ways away, but im going to say YES and cross my fingers nothing happens to mess up my plans!

Atkinson, NH(Zone 5a)

We will be Coming Either date is good.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

too far for me... sorry

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I know that southwestern New Hampshire is far away for most of our NEGers, and I sigh when I think of those who may not be able to travel so far. Also, if gas prices get much higher by October, there may not be much of a crowd for the Round Up here, and I would understand that as well!!

Louise, perhaps a few of us can get together for a mini RU (test run - LOL!) before you have to leave in early October.

Celeste, I am crossing my fingers, too! It would be an honor to have you visit!!

John & Liza, I can't wait to meet you both!!

Candyce - On a weekend? Columbus Day? In the fall foliage season? I wont have a driver! Your not far enough away !

I will drive myself :-)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

LOL Sherrie!
I will expect you here, promptly!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

How far are you from 89 or 91?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Count me in sister!!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Evie:
I am about 45 minutes to an hour from 91. Not sure about 89. But it's 45 minutes from Brattleboro.

Kassia .... you are counted in!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Afraid it's too far for me as well, Candyce. Sorry. Hope you get a good crowd!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Man, would I love to go. I love NH. But, alas, no more trips for me this year...sigh.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

You can count me in!! Wheeeee! Another RU!!

Hey Songs, my 40th is the 12th! Your DH and I are nearly twins!

Marlborough, MA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like fun. I think Marilyn and I could make it.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Sofonisba - cool!

45 mins from Brattleboro? To the east? You may not be as far from me as I thought...

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i'd love to, but i never know about my schedule this far ahead...

I'll have to wait and see. I don't think my husband will like the idea of 3.5 hrs or so of a drive for a gardening thing :) And it would be too late for me to trade plants I think :(

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It's not too late to trade plants. We held a Round Up in October of last year, and there was still enough of the season left to get the plants established before the New Hampshire snows set in.

Marlborough, MA(Zone 5b)

DON"T SAY THE "S" WORD!!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Sorry, Chuck! My bad!!

So, what works for most of us?
October 11 or October 18?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

either one is good for me...

It could be today, tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. Need I say more?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I may be able to come if it is on 10/11, but I definitely cannot come on 10/18. However, I think you should go with the date that works best for the most people - including the hosts!!! I will certainly understand if that is on 10/18.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Either date is fine for me

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

So far, I am leaning towards the 11th. So pencil that day in guys and gals!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Looks like either date is too late for me to plant :( I was at a garden group meeting last night and I asked about it, and apparently we did a swap mid-Oct last year and not everything made it.

I think it all depends on if we get in Oct...I think last year we did...such a gamble.

Ah, the joy of z4 Vermont gardening :o

(and I hear you warm winter folks cringing at the thought of Oct too late to plant! now you know why I hate looking at your pictures...I'm too jealous!)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Evie:

I think you should still come, if not for the plants, at least for the friendship. Whadya think, eh?

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

I know, that's why it is a wait and see. If I could plant, then it would be a "we need to make a point to go", but w/o plants then it is a "we'll see what is going on and see if we'll go." no offense...just a long drive, which we aren't fond of in the first place :) [we don't even like driving an hour to somewhere...we're such homebodies!]

Chepachet, RI(Zone 5b)

I would love to but for our family October is one of those months that I wish were twice as long! Jamming in apple picking and hayrides and cornmazes and mum planting and putting the garden to bed and--and--and--

well, you get the idea. It's my favorite month but I do get tired just thinking about it. ;)

I hope you all have a great time! :D

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, Candyce....I hope a lot of people can come if you do schedule it for the 11th. There is a good chance I can make it then. We may push our Denver trip to a few days later, and there is still a chance we won't go in October after all. We're trying to figure out how we can see our new grandchild, who is due in a week. They won't be coming East, so we are trying to figure out if and when we can go out there. The thought of missing your RU is downright painful! So, I'm going to say I'm more IN than OUT at this point! My 25 year law school reunion is on the 18th and I had committed to go to that before we got the idea of going out to Denver, so if we're here, I've got to go to that on the 18th. So.....Yay!!

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Oh Candyce, I was hoping to incorporate your RU with a trip further north, but I won't be back from my trip to FL yet by then.
For my mom's 77th birthday, my sister and I bought a week stay at a cottage on Venice beach. Girls week at the beach!!

Hope you guys all have a blast! Hopefully I'll get to meet you some other trip or RU.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Rats, Nance!!

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

I agree!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I'm riding with Harper.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Cat, shall we listen to our own music and/or books this time?
