Ouch! You didn't have to shout BJ..lolol!!! If you count the mosquito bites I had...yes..it's a buggy day!
Hey, I have a couple of those windows too. One in the original living room and the other in a spare bedroom. That window has a nice view of my back garden...especially now with Asiatics blooming...the fruit trees, strawbales and one magnificent lavender Crepe Myrtle.
As for the kitchen, it has a itty bitty window..
**SWEET INTERRUPTION** 5
....do I hear plans in your voice Jaye?
I can't see out of any of our windows unless I stand on my tippy toes.
Marion, we had dark paneling through out the house here too.. was really big in the 70's also... Even the kitchen was dark paneling with dark wood cabinets. We called our place "the cave"... was sooo dark.
BUT, we primed and painted the paneling... except in the master bed and bath... we removed the paneling in there, and found sheet rock behind the paneling... so we just taped and bedded, textured, and painted... well, you saw that pic of it.
We do really like the painted paneling though... painted two walls in the living room "gumball red" and the rest in a light khaki color through out the rest of the area... LR, Kitchen, and DR all one big room. Really brightened it up, but still dark with no windows to speak of.
An unending project this house is Marion! Plans...more plans..poor poor Kel.
BJ, that's what I did to the panelings in my old house. Primed and painted the panelings in the living room. What a difference it made. From a dark crypt to a fairy world!!
I had a room with paneling painted but am not satisfied with the job they did. Isn't holding up. What did you do as I am thinking about redoing it as time allows. There will be some areas in the "dungeon" that will be painted paneling. Also going to try to hang some wallpaper on one section. I have read it can be done provided the paneling has been treated with a coat of Kliz or something similar. Done any of that?
I think you are beginning to see why the MIL suite got named "the dungeon". Oh I forgot to mention BJ I love the idea of the red and kakki color scheme!!!
Jaye, do we ever really get a house like we truly want it? Mine have always been in a state of change!
Yep, that's what I used Marion. Kilz. House painters recommend me that.
Ah ha! That is what I think the painters did the work. Unbelievable, they were contractors but now I wonder? Oh well, I am, believe or not, getting much better organized and will do it myself this time. Does it just take one coat to cover? Oh thank you, I really was curious about doing that.
Well, Marion.. Just from our experience... Kilz didn't work as well as Zinssler... plus, just as an extra measure we roughed up the surface with some sand paper first...
So, sand, then prime, then two coats of paint.. is all it took... time consuming, but worth it... and it's very durable...
Well, Jaye.. I did it.. I took some pics to show you... ya ready?
Well, I can answer that question easily Marion. Never had a home as in my dreams. Each time I think I'm ready to do major work...something came up..like moving overseas... Then when I'm finally settled... marriage's on the rocks. Got only the living room done!! Didn't much care about the rest!
So, right now with Kel..he's very accomodating. He built this house, lived in it as a bachelor would for years, until I claimed it as Jayeville. It's wall to wall books here..floor to floor furbabies..
Go on BJ with your good self!
Oh but it sure sounds like you and Kel are turning it into a dream home. None of our houses have ever been my dream home. My dream home would have someone in residence to do all the work!!! LOL I'm really bad to living in a place and start thinking: oh wouldn't this be nice to do, or some other thing. Oh,bellieve me I know what a bachelor pad is like. I married one!!!
That's just some of them... I won't bore you with all of them... you'll see next year when you plant the ones I'm sending you...
BJ what a lovely zinnia the first pic is!! Such unique petals. Here go the trees!!!
Ladies I think I am calling it a night. This weather has caused a headache so I'm going go see if it will easy off. Nite. BJ have a great trip.
Yea, Marion... that's my fav of all.. but it stands about 5' tall... I kinda wish it was shorter... but, it's so lovely, I'll take it at any height.
Wunderbar!!!!
How beautiful!!! Yes I'd love to have those seeds, BJ. They must do a good job brightening up your landscape.
Night night Jaye... hope you feel better tomorrow.
Yes, they do brighten things up around here.
Night Marion...sleep well...take a couple of Tylenols.
Not boring at all. Y'all put up with my pics after all. How can we learn if not from others' pictures. Feel free to post all you want, BJ.
OOps.. I'm confused again... was Marion going to bed... sorry.
Night Marion... sleep tight.
Run of the mill can be beauties too...look at the common marigolds.
The orange one looks bi-colored. Kel loves orange and yellows.
Do you have any that's bi- with white in it??
That's it.. I'm done...
Now you see what'ca got to look forward to next year.
Be warned... they will get as tall as you are... little over 5' is the tallest.
Next question..do they make good cut flowers?
I didn't see any bi with white...
but I only planted a fraction of what she sent me... there's probably lots of varieties I didn't even plant.
Taller they are the better for me! Perfect backdrop for the next lasagna beds..or along the fence.
OH, YES... they do...
When MIL came to visit... I cut a bunch for the house... and they lasted and lasted... long after she left I still had blooms in the house.
Tell your sis, not to throw any seeds away. Got plenty of space here that needed to be filled up with blooms.
Anything that don't require germinating in the gh, that will be the best for me!
Oh, she doesn't throw seeds away... she plants zinnias every year along the fence line in her back yard.. it's her back drop too for a wide bed.
Oh wow.. zinnias are getting more respect from me. I love gingers...they are graceful and so lovely, but not great cut flowers.
And full sun right? That's all I have left..full sun, unlike Marion!
Zinnias completely encircle her back yard... it's really stunning to see.
the more sun the better for them...
BJ, you've just inspired me to go online and look for some unique zinnias. If I find any..I'll send you some...
