I received five bulbs from a friend earlier this spring, and haven't had a chance to plant them out in the garden. They're summer bulbs, and supposed to have been planted already. But, taking a look at the bulbs, a few of them have started to sprout without being planted and have stems about 4 inches from the root of the bulb, whereas others appear "dormant." Should I plant them in containers for the summer, in the hopes that they will bloom quickly? Or should I just put them in the fridge and hope the stems die off so they'll be ready for next summer?
Thanks! This is my first post and look forward to coming back often!

I would go ahead and plant them because the bulbs store energy from the leaves for next year's growth. They may not bloom but that's O.K. The important thing is to allow them enough green growth to store the necessary energy for next season.
I gave some of these to my sister last year as well as this year. She didn't plant hers until mid-July and they still flowered beautifully.
