Plant or tree whose leaves have an oddly flat end

Silver Spring, MD

The plant shown has grown up in the front bed (which had a 7ft tall Canadian Horseweed this forum identified for me, before I yanked it). The leaves are of a familiar shape except the top which is oddly flat on all of them (so it's not a result of animals, bugs). Any help in identifying this is appreciated. I'm finding it hard to search pictures in books without more knowledge to start with.

It looks a lot like a young yellow poplar or "tulip tree".

They grow very fast so I'd get it out of the flower bed.
