I think it was Tanya Tucker that did "Delta Dawn" when she was 15. Her
first hit record. What about Mary Wells,
Martha and The Vandellas, Smoke Robinson and The Temptations, The Platters........
"eyes"
good old doo-wop!!
Coco, you must be reading out of a book! Or maybe all the collected music you have? They were all great!
Eyes, I loved Smokey Robinson, too! Have an album from him.Wonder if I'd get mega bucks on Ebay?
Was Dusty Springfield mentioned?
I just write them down as I think of em. Once I get on a roll like this, it's hard for me to stop. Me and DH was naming all sorts of songs and artist on our way into town. Just one section of my brain that started up again. Hasn't been used in along time and once it opened up it just won't shut. I know I'm not the only one growing up in this time period so lets here some more songs from other gardeners out there. I'm just like the Energizer Bunny, I just keep going and going and going and.....
"I got you Babe"....Sonny & Cher
"Blue Hawaii"....Elvis
Cocomo.......Beach Boys
"Surfer Girl"
"Help Me Rhonda"
"Barbara Ann"....Jan & Dean
"Little Old Lady From Pasadena"
"Dead Man's Curve"
"Peggy Sue"......Buddy Holly
"White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation"...Conway Twitty
"El Paso" ......Marty Robbins
more, more, more......."eyes"
Hey, way to go eyes' We had thought of some of those riding in the car today. More, more. Yes, I do have a collection of old albums but can't get to them. They are in my craft room which is full of stuff right now. I have 4 old chairs sitting in there that need painting and turned into a garden seat. That will be a winter project. I have grape vine wreaths that need decorating as well, and pots to paint. Just all sort of things that need to be done in there so there is no way right now I can get to my albums. Wish I could. I had bought 4 real nice looking chairs with no seats on them for $20.00 each. Nice looking chairs with great detail but going to put 2 of them together and make a garden seat and 1 I will decorate and put by the entrance door, and the other, I don't know yet.
Wait a minute. How did I get from music to chairs? Hey, musical chairs!!! Ok, ok, I'll shut up.
Having a "senior Moment"???

Most of the above and
Deep Purple by the Platters
Dancing on the porch at Scott's Oquaga Lake House to the big band sounds, mostly Glenn Miller,Tommy dorsey and Lawrence Welk...wonder if they still do that?
Oh My Gosh! Just thought of this song while making a post on another forum.
How can we forget....Tiny Tim in, 'Tip Toe Through The Tulips.' I always hated that song. Guess, I should say disliked sounds better. Great! Now it will be stuck in my head all day.GRRRR.
NOW, I know why I don't plant any tulips.I'd be thinking of that song all the time.

My mother played the piano by ear and her favorite and everyone that ever heard her play it also was PISTOL PACKING MAMA. My nephew and I was talking about how the piano would almost get up and walk when she played that song. How about the song, and this goes way back also, ON TOP OF OLD SMOKEY. The town I grew up in had a progam on Saturday at the movie theatre before the cowboy show started called amateur show and a cousin and I signed up and got up and sung that song just to get a certicate for a half gallon of ice cream. I will do and have done anything for ice cream. I was scared silly. I think I never uttered a word just laughted at my cousin for thinking I would help him sing.
Oh yes, Pistol Packing Mama......sounds like me only with a baseball bat that I was about to use on a couple of cable guys at one time. But that is a whole nether story there.
Then we have On Top of Spagetti, all covered with cheese, I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed....it rolled off the table and onto the floor and then my poor meatball , rolled right out the door.....bla, bla, bla. Not signing the rest.
"I go to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses, and the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses...And, he walks with me and he talks with me, and he tells me I am His own. And the joy I feel as we tarry there...None other...has ever..known"

There's a knot on a log in a hole in the bottom of the sea.
Coco, you will overrun even the energizer wabbit! LOL!
As for my crafts ,they are under my bed ,hidden away, still! My fabric is stored away too,out of site ,out of mind.Hey,maybe I can send it all down to Ga., 'she' is new at this and has her attic full of things [given to her recently]to get started on.And I'll be humming "On the midnight train to Georgia" and... and ......
How about Hank Williams and all his great songs. HEY GOOD LOOKING, THERE'S A TEAR IN MY BEER, KAWLIGA, and many many more.
And the moving on man Hank Snow. Did he mention your home town in the song I'VE BEEN EVERYWHERE? He did mine. Opelika Al. And we used to say I'm pulling a Hank Snow on you and that meant I'm moving on or I'm leaving because of his song I'M MOVING ON. He was a Canadian and wore a God awful toupee.
One of my favorites was HONEY by Bobby Goldboro from Dothan AL.
Don Williams and all his great ballards one being I BELIEVE IN LOVE. Went to one of his concerts the week that was #1 on the charts.
Marty Robbins and A WHITE SPORTS COAT.
Junior High Memory: Going round and round the rink on a couples-only skate to REO Speedwagon's "Time for me to Fly", hardly believing *he* would actually skate with me. Of course, *he* must not have been too memorable, because I can't remember his name or what he looked like. LOL - fickle child.
Adult Memory: After my grandpa died, I developed a love for big band music while listening to some cassettes of his which I received. So...When Howard and I were marrried, Big Band played a large part in our marriage celebration.
Our processional was, "Sunday, Monday or Always" sung by Bing Crosby. Our poor pastor tried motioning for everyone to stand when I was just ready to come down the aisle, but no one had a *clue* of what to do without the traditional dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum... wedding march intro!
Our recessional was, "On the Sunny Side of the Street" sung by Doris Day. It was funny without any planning to have it happen this way. The wedding party stepped down and out of the sanctuary during the song's happy clarinet solo introduction. Just as our Pastor, the last to leave, put his foot out to take the first step, Doris Day started singing, "Grab your coat, get your hat, leave your worries on the doorstep..."
LOL - we never realized it until we watched the video and heard the guests erupt in laughter as he smiled, shrugged and kept walking!
Ahhhh,my 'other ' weakness.I've got a music collection that people are amazed at. Got everything from Grand Funk Railroad to Tenessee Ernie Ford!
But my special weakness is the singer songwriters of the late 60's early 70's.
'I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, but I always thought that I'd see you again"
James Taylor
"Oh ,baby baby it's a wild world. It's hard to get by just upon a smile. Oh,baby baby it's a wild world. And I'll always remember you like a child"
Cat Stevens
'The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin in the wind"
Bob Dylan
'Over the mountains and under the sea, there'll never be another one like mine for me"
Lennon-McCartney
'Long ago I reached for you and there you stood.Holding you again would only do me good. And how I wish I could ,but you're so far away"
Carole King
'If I could save time in a bottle. The first thing that I'd like to do.Is to save every day till eternity passes away, just to spend them with you"
Jim Croce
'Keep a fire burning in your eyes,Pay attention to ,the open skies. You never know what will be coming down"
Jackson Browne
So many others...
Gordon Lightfoot
Joni Mitchell
Neil Young
Joan Baez
The heartfelt music of a generation .

Listening to Suspicion by Terry Stafford over and over and ordering suicides at the drive-in. Remember that?
Just got one of those e-cards with the background music "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" by James Brown...so here we go again!

Eyes The Motown thing was and still is hot and I love them all. The song Under The Board Walk by the Marcels reminds me of my first love. I was six and he was nine and would chase me around the block trying to pull my hair.
I fell in love with him the first time he pulled my hair spinning me around planted a kiss on me and ran...awh puppy love.
P.S.
I forgot to mention a song that I am sure that everyone would argee is wonderful if they have every listen to it, Cherish by Kool and the Gang,it is so beatiful and so true to life.

....LOL....I had forgotten that one about the bikini....but you didn't Jim......wifey musta had one!!
"eyes"
Hey Jim I have almost all of Sam Cooke's records. Have you ever heard the Wayward Wind by him? The whole album is a group of soft wonderful songs.
I love all the ones you listed above and have some of Nate King Cole's albums. I love the one his daughter remade with her father "Unforgetable" When I saw the video I almost cried,it was so beautiful and touching. I hate to admit this but I do remember the bikini song.
Lol Eyes I had a pink one with white poka dots,I guess after that song dots became the craz
Hey eyes, I won the twist contest in the first grade. Can't believe I still remember that competition, Maryann Rose and I tied and had a final twist off ! LOL Thanks for the memories.
As for hubby and I we are avid Bob Dylan, and the "Boss" Springsteen!
Candee
OK, I have to climb onboard this resurrected thread because it refers to another one of my great loves...music!
Windsurfer: Wasn't "Wayward Wind" a Gogi Grant song? I have it on an old album, believe it or not! I must have at least 600 albums, a thousand CD's, and countless cassette tapes, not to mention a few reel to reels, but I could never own all the music that has been recorded over the years. I always love to find a new recording artist I've missed!
Back in the 8th grade, I was going steady with my x-husband, and our theme song was Run Away by Del Shannon. I can't recall what it was in our Senior year, shortly before we got married, but it should have been Aretha Franklin's "You'd Better Think!"...WZ
Well now I think most of us have already given our favs here but I do love Nat King Cole also. Just in case I didn't mention it before :-)
Weez I don't know who recorded it first, I just know that Sam Cooke also recorded it and it is a beautiful song.
My mother had one of the old floor model wind up victrolla's and she had Elvis Presley album Hound Dog and quite of few others that he made. I have a lot of albums, 45's and eight track tapes. I also would love to have all of the recordings by the following people:
Tammy Wynett,W.Judd,The Birds,Otis Redding,Patsy Cline,Johnny Gill,Brook Benton,Diana Washingtion,Sam Cooke,The Impressions,Betty Evert,Gladis Knight & the pips,Ricky Nelson(I jus love him),James Brown, and Mom's Mabley. The list could go on forever but just like you I can't afford is so I just borrow them from the library and make tapes of my own, don't have a CD burnner yet lol.
how about Joni James, Tony Bennet, Jerry Vale, Frankie Lane, Eddie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Lena Horne, Frankie Avalon, Julie LOndon and so many others? the choral music of the Manhattan's, & Ray Conniff? Burt Bacharach's, & Barry White's instrumental music?
Well How about some tape swaps instead of plants ya'll. I think I have the Sam Cooke album. My wife made me buy it. I'll have to survey the old records and tapes and see what I have.
How about Jim Reeves and I think the song Four Walls. He had so many great songs and died at an early age.
Another one is Ed Ames that played the Indian on T.V. I think Davey Crockett or Daniel Boone and I think he was Mingo. Not sure if my memory is correct on that or not.
........Jim, some one is bring Doo Wop tapes, so why not??
"eyes"
Jim let me know which Sam Cooke tape you have and if I don't have it I will swap with you.
Do you know the name of the singer that sang the song" Hello Walls"? I know that he was a country Western singer.
Eyes I just love Doo Wop, let's talk.
Does anyone like The Free Brid's Baby I love Your Way, I just love that song. What I would really like to get my hands on is the videos for all these songs so when I have my 29th birthday again, I would just take the tv outside and let them watch, listen and dance lol.
Windsurfer: "Hello Walls" was recorded by Conway Twitty, I think. I'm not familiar with a group called Free Bird. Leonard Skinnard did a song called "Free Bird", but I'm pretty sure you don't mean that. I remember a song like that by Peter Frampton, I think. What era are we talking about?
Georgiaredclay: I've always admired Jim Reeve's voice. Four Walls is one of his best. I have some of his music, and I have some Ed Ames, one is a solo album I think and then some albums of the Ames Brothers.
MaVieRose: I enjoy Frankie Lane's music, but my favorite album is not a country style. He sings "Cherry Red" quite nicely. Lena Horne was quite the singer of her time. I have an album that she did with Harry Belafonte, another winner.
I'm just trying to think of one of my favorite old harmony groups, but my brain just slipped a cog...who did "Glow Worm"? Boy, I'm really reaching back into the past!...WZ
