This gets bigger and bigger every year (now approaching four feet), and looks uglier and more weed-like and all the time. I think I have decided to pack it off to composter heaven, but still being dazzled by growth of any kind and keenly aware of my inexperience, I thought I would stay the execution until submitting the question to more experienced peers.
Is this a weed?
I'm pretty sure it's Queen Anne's Lace. It's up to you if it's a weed. It's wild and invasive, but my mom grows it on purpose for flower arrangements.
It is very invasive. There is a wonderful folk tale about how it looks like the Queen's lace and the drop of red in the center fell from Anne's heart as she died; however, it is still a pest. The only way to use it in arrangements is to hairspray the blossom, cut it and quick singe with a lighter the cut ends.
It sure looks like Queen Anne's Lace and it is invasive. It is, however very attractive to beneficial bugs.
