Indoor strawberry light schedule

Roswell, GA(Zone 7b)

Has anyone ever tried to grow strawberries indoors under grow lights? I have the everbearing variety. My question is what light schedule should I use to keep the strawberries productive?

Like any other fruiting plant they need alot of light specifically in the red color band. 12-14 hours a days should be about right and you want to be using a light with a color warmth of 2700k if you are using a HID bulb this would be accomplished with a high pressure sodium or you would want a soft white 2700k fluorescent bulb. if you go with the fluorescent you will need to keep it very close to the plant about 3-6 inches.

If you want strawberry plants to actually produce fruit indoors, you are going to need High Pressure Sodium or Metal Halide lights which can cost in the hundreds of dollars and could cost $50 a month in electricity for a very small crop of berries.

Fluorescent bulbs will not give you substantial fruit.

I already have an HPS light and a MH light system that I've used to start seeds early indoors. I just needed to know what light schedule strawberries would like.

Well there you have it. use the HPS for fruiting.
