large houseplants

Tucson, AZ

What is a large (tall) houseplant that I could grow indoors; it would have to be something that is not harmful to cats. I live in Arizona but have air conditioning so it wouldn't be hot inside.

Royal Oak, MI

Perhaps a palm of some sort?

Ficus trees (banana leaf variety doesn't lose leaves like benjamina), canela, dracaena marginata, minature orange or yucca should all be safe for cats.

There are many houseplants that are poisonous to cats and dogs. We have 4 cats in our family and many, many plants! One cat loves to chew on every and all plants. I have to watch that kitty very closely - she chews on something and then throws up. I try to keep cat grass and catnip plants around to give them once in awhile to distract them from my plants.

Some Ficus trees are poisonous as well as some Dracaena's. Here's a list of some plants that are poisonous to felines: http://www.cfainc.org/articles/plants.html

Norfolk Island pine is pretty and gets tall. And you can always decorate it for Christmas!

I've seen Sheffleras 8 feet tall. I know of one at work the woman wanted to give me but I have no room for it.
