50's ROCK!!!
Rock Wall Construction
50's did not rock with my father - he's is having a tough time dealing with his oldest being 50.
Hope hanna is not to bad wanted to transplant all plants and put down the large stone Saturday - may have to get more big ones and wanted to see where i was at with stock.
YEP......LOTS OF 50'S and one I know with more than twenty plus more years. I should maybe start building a nice box and digging a hole at one end of the garden to match it.
Nonsense, Dwaine. Didn't you hear? 70 is the new 50!
That's what I heard too.
Nope.............I've been working the call lists for our political choice. I see lots of 60's, some 70's, a few 80's and very few 90's. Does not matter..... to much above 75 they answer the phone yell in the speaker and don't hear out the other end. I do not see 70 as the new 50. At fifty I was still playing softball, eating sixteen ounce steaks, could hear a buck sneaking through the bush and getting away with enjoying all three.
I am catching up with Bill's wall progress after hauling quite a bit of my own stone from the former chimney. The final placement is to be determined (maybe a year or two). Good job Bill. If you want a vacation, but are worrying about hauling stone withdrawal, you could head me way. :>)
Velnita, I wanted to add to your comment about the superstition of leaving a work unfinished. I've never heard of leaving a work unfinished, but it is a teaching in some cultures and religions that imperfection is a part of the process of realization. Sometimes intentional mistakes are included and, from my own experience as a silk embroiderer in the art of nuido, your "mistakes" are considered a part of your history and your master will not encourage you to tear them out.
L
Interesting, Laurel. I like that about your mistakes being part of your history and that you shouldn't tear them out. It is a reminder that we are not perfect. I remember a time when I thought it would be good if I could just erase memories of mistakes that were mentally difficult for me to cope with, but then I realized that those mistakes are what makes me who I am, and I could not learn without having made them.
Karen
Karen,
It is supposed to be more than a reminder that we are not perfect...it is meant to be an instruction. For me, it was a huge hurdle.
Laurel
Ditto!
Double!
Looks great, Bill. Hopefully generations to come will enjoy your work!
thanks Victor - if you need some stone for your driveway let me know - i have a LOT of extra!
If you supply the labor, it's a deal! I'll bring you all the refreshments you need.
Yikes.......I was just going to add a post, but a bat just flew into our living room when my DH opened the door to take Molly out. Gotta go.........catch you all later!
Good luck! (Bats are great, by the way. Try not to hurt it!)
Hope you got the bat out, back into the garden where it belongs so it can gobble up all the nasties.
wow
it's looking great... you did a good job
Bill, what a composition you could write as a back-to-school report about what you did for the summer. Such a great accomplishment. Those "stone guys" D & D don't have anything on you. Maybe you could even teach them a thing or two. Again, great job.
Excellent work, Bill! Really amazing to see all the progress you've made. I'm quite impressed. And you have some really nice rocks there.
Karen
It looks so good, Bill. You must be very proud. Will you be glad when it's done?
It can never be done! Personally, I think it needs to go higher...
thanks everyone - i pretty happy with it although i have had a problem with it getting a little wider - i think it will be fine once i get rid of the stones i'm using to build it and clean up the rose bed - need to edge it, level it, and mulch it.
Victor i was thinking wider not taller - alhtough it would be out of scale with the other wall it is connected too in front of the house - i'll be leaving it as is and using the extra rock for some other yet to be determined projects. possibly terracing some more of the front of the yard and using them around a bed in the back - most of the stone left are smaller bowling ball sized rocks. i also have a big supply of flat rock that i wanted to cap with that i haven't used as much as i'd like - the flat stone will be used in the next section when i mix in the blue slate stone. will be asking for opinion on that not sure how it will look.
I was just kidding, Bill. Just trying to make you work more! My driveway beckons...
Don't worry - the bat is fine! It took us awhile to find him. He was up in the unfinished wall of Hank's "new" office, so we opened the two windows in there and shut the door and he was gone by morning. I like bats and have a bat house for them up near my garden. It just startled me a bit to be on DG and to have a bat suddenly circling my head. LOL We are into saving all critters that stop in for a visit - except for mosquitos. Now I forgot what I was about to post. LOL
Victor i knew you were kidding - no worries
I knew you knew.
