Starting Perennial Seeds this Time of Year

My mother recently informed me that I could still start perennial seeds now, transplant in the fall and look forward to more color next year! i thought this might be an inexpensive way to get some real goodies going. My question is, what would be the best way to get them going? Can I just set the flats on my full-sun deck or would it be best to get my little mini greenhouse out and have them protected in there? I am afraid it would get too hot in there but maybe they like that? If I leave them on the deck I am afraid they would get washed out from a rain. I have some Tequila Sunrise columbine seed and it says 3-5 weeks for a sprout so would think they need to be safe . . but also not fried . . . thanks for your help!

I would just plant them outside this time of year -personally I wouldnt start them in a full sun place.
I have always had more luck starting seeds outside - mine never did well with the "hardining off" period.
Im sure some people are quite the opposite though - to each its own - could you do 1/2 & 1/2??

Columbine doesn't like full sun,so if you plant the seed outside be careful.Lynn

Columbine seeds need total darkness and cool temperatures to germinate. You will have to cover your seed trays until they sprout, then keep the seedlings out of the sun. You may have better luck if you sow them directly in the ground. Don't bury the seed.
