**SWEET INTERRUPTION** 4

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I'm lucky rabbits and deers never bothered my plants...so far. But I do put out rabbit food.
See that Marion, Jojo came up with 2 more. Kel loves the cheery coleus.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

No Jaye, no Asian roots--just like the smell of lemon grass but, get this, hated the smell of lemon pledge when I cleaned and polished the furniture. I beleive his had English/Scots blood --not really sure. We got our downpour this morning but the froggies are crying for it now. Wish it would rain--great sleeping weather.

Thanks for the plant suggestions, have written them in my book. This wasn't really something that started out planned it sorta developed over the years. We would talk about something in the back area and it started being referred to as Dad's Place. It will be appropriate though.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Coleus and Caladiums are a staple around here!!! As well as impatiens--get my color quickly with those.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I don't have enough shade space for impatiens. My begonias compete for shade too..plus the hellebores.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I like impatiens, they are just used so much down here that I guess I got tires of them, haven't put any out in a few years. Sadly my begonias went the way of my caladiums LOL Deer food!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

They are overused here too but I still like the color that give me in a sea of green. My begonia are so so this year. Don't have to worry about dear eating them just the smaller 4 legged beastie with long tails!!

I have been thinking about adding some helleboros but haven't so far. Are they easy to grow?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Caladiums make beautiful centerpieces too, Jojo.
Shame on the deers, for not watching their diet. Don't they know they're not supposed to eat 'domesticated' plants/bulbs?

Time for me to retire. Catch y'all sweet sistahs tomorrow.
Rainbow dreams ...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I'm headed that way also. Actually working has made me tired today.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

We cross posted Marion. If hellebores can grow for me, they can grow for anyone. I got mine from one of the co-ops here. Pot luck colors.
Bonne Nuit..you too Zman :D

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Sure looks like we did cross. Nite everyone.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Nita everyone! I"m gone too sweet dreams!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'd like to try a small place of lasagna! But I don't get grass clippings, might get pine straw later, no manure, unless I buy it at Wal*Mart, and I can get peat moss. I could start it now and gradually add to it, couldn't I?

Plano, TX

doe that is what i do --just keep expanding my lasagna areas--leaves, wood chips, peat, coffee grounds etc--and after a while i just took the stuff from my compost that wasnt' composted yet--so instead of layers it was just mixed up lasagna--that worked just as well

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Girls you need to watch out for those florida compost mushrooms. Some people eat those for enjoyment!!! LOL
Good morning everyone. I wish we had leaves, or pine, or any type of tree here. All I have here is Mesquite, and a few live oak. Oh well, I will just have to keep buying Miracle grow at $10.00 a bag!
Later
Linda

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm sure "they" wouldn't let me have a compost pile! Wonder if I could sneak a small one in a bucket? TEE HEE HEE!!! I may have already started one in a yoghurt tub inside!

Plano, TX

if you can't do a compost than do the lasagna method--put everything on top of your layers

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Audrey, you can do earthworms in a tub in the kitchen. Check out gardening books by Felder Rushing!! Good information and fun reading too!! I am also sure you could research it on the internet and find the infomation needed to start.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning!
Stomach's churning first thing this morning. Ate too much cashews!
Doe, Linda suggested right, turn your bed into a standing compost. If yours gonna be a small area, you can easily cover it too, to make it 'cook' faster.
Discovered some bags of compost today at Lowe's sold under brand name Timberline-under 3 bucks-, much cheaper than Black Cow.
Couldn't load any up..truck was full.
It did rain enough last night that all I have to do later is to water the potted plants, that will be a half hour's work.
Then back to my kitchen swap project :( It's finished but had a little glitch with a certain mechanism. Got to dismantle it and try to rectify it.
Have a good day sistahs!

Hey Audrey just keep a big sealed pickle jar or something like it on your counter. All week dump your veggie scraps and coffee grounds in it. When it gets full, dig a hole where you want to grow something and dump it in. Give it a mothe (edited to say month LOL) or so and voila!! Instant compost in a hole!

Marion, will you continue with the dungeon today? Don't overdo yourself.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yeap, later this afternoon after I go into town for a few errands--meds refilled !! He stopped by last night to check progress--can you say Slave driver? LOL

Hopefully tomorrow we will be putting up the new and remaining sheet rock.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Neat Jojo! Who would have thought of that? And don't throw away your teabags, Audrey. Bury them in your rose bed.
Well Marion, I got to lift my hat to you. You are indeed brave to tackle such a massive project. The role has reverse...DS pushing you around....and where does he learn perfection from...the both of you of course!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Actually started this when in a heavy fog!!! Oh well it is fun and I will admit have have learned some things--if I could only remember what they were.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Somewhere in the cobwebs of your mind, Marion! He he he..that's where most of out memories are, of the non-essentials!
Thank God, the good things are easier to recall!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yeap, thank God for that!!!!! Well this time I am off.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Hey Audrey, after you save your pics to whatever folder you like. Look at the very top, there is a little square with a bunch of little squares inside of it. When you run your mouse over it, it gives you the options of how to view your pics.Choose thumbnail. then you can see each pic. At that point right click the pic it will give you a little menu, choose rename. Then type in a name you can identify each pic by. that might help you get the right pic when you want to post. Hope that helps!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol!! Look at that gnome hanging on to the pot for dear life! Too cute Audrey!!

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I got a package!! Thank you Jaye! They made it through with flying colors! I had forgotten that you were sending them and when I saw the package, I thought Who is sending me a baseball bat? LOL
Thank you thank you!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow ho!!! Thanks here also Jaye. DD wanted to know "what have gone and ordered now? I need to open the box and so exicted--having someone to come this weekend to help me with the yard---provided slave driver son doesn't change my plans!!! LOL

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL that was my DH, I was like no really she sent it out of the kindness of her heart, I'm not sure he belived me LOL

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

..well when I ask about the address she back off here. What does she think anyways? She's my keeper--not hardly!!!!

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL give em heck Marion, they forget where thay came from dont they!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes they certainly do but I have to use the line: I may be short, but I am still the mother--DD is 5'11" and DS is 6'3"---mom--5'4"!! Or better I'm a dime among nickels!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Good one, Marion... I need to steal that sometime... ok?
I'm 5'4" ... Son #1 is 5'9", Son #2 is 6'2", Son #3 is 6'3"... I just kept growing them taller and taller... well, hey... I had to have someone to reach the top of the fridge... right?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Just got back from a good Carnitas dinner, again. Like twice this week, so far!
Didn't expect your packages to get there that quick. Thought it would be Friday.
Anyway if you couldn't plant them in a couple of days, they'll be okay, as long as you keep them moist. I had a few dried up rhizomes that revived after a few soakings..when left on the ground.
Next year, when I'm ready to dig up another bed of Hedychium Angustifolium "peach" -- fancy term for Peach ginger, I'll definitely send some to you both...and of course, Sis ;)
Jojo, there are a bunch of kindhearted DGers here. Kel wasn't surprised at all at their generosity. A wonderful sista surprised me with this fairy global lights.

Marion, you're the golden dime among the nickels ;)

Five foot 2 and a half. Proud of that half inch!
Yeah, BJ, that's what Kel could do well....dust the top of the fridge!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Jaye, your making my tomato sandwich sound bad now!!! Carnitas--love them and we go to Bainbridge to get ours. Good restuarant and besides they know the hs Spanish teacher!!! LOL Jaye that would be wonderful. Never seen a peach ginger before. Need to research that one. Already dampened them and they look fine.

Yeap, BJ that is exactly what I mean, I'm way to short to reach the top shelves or even dust the top of the fridge.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... one of my Christmas presents from Don was a step ladder for the house. I kept stealing his from the shop... the one with paint and globs of all kinds of stuff all over it... so now I have a nice clean one to reach all the high things... I use it almost everyday.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm 5'4" also! and trying for 5'4" around!!
