Lin you remind me that each of our climates has it's pros and cons, I love the bulbs and iris's and they do well here!
Here is another of the iris's that I dug up at the old place, I'm big on yellow so this one was another lovely addition to my small outside garden area.
Kim, I need some tips with the iris's and since your getting ready to do a major overhaul ont he placement of yours can you tell me what they like best, please?

July Blooms: Part 2
Brenda that is a pretty iris.
Lin, I posted on the ID forum for that lady's plant. I really don't think it's a Nematanthus though. I know alot of people have told her Jade and I really believe that is what she has but my second guess would be Columnea over Nematanthus.
Brenda, Iris like at least 6 hours of sun. They prefer a more alkaline soil which is why I will add lime when we re-do the bed (didn't get to it this weekend). Also, the rhizome should be on top of the soil and not planted. Hope this helps :)
Wow, all the awesome pictures! SO pretty everyone!
Kim
That is a pretty yellow one too, but I love that purple bloom! I bet the yellow and purple iris would look great in a bed together. Are they both the same height? Aaah ... I can just picture a rainbow of colors.
I would love to have a cottage style garden ... just masses and masses of color everywhere! My husband likes straight lines and edges, more formal type gardens. He has lived in Florida since before he was a year old. He doesn't really like trees that lose their leaves in fall. I have one Sugar Maple tree in the yard and it's one of my favorites! I love the colorful leaves in fall. We don't get the vibrant color very often but every once in awhile that maple puts on a show. And, I love when the leaves are on the ground and I walk down to the mailbox to get the mail ... the sound of the leaves underfoot. I remember last year he wanted to mow them or rake them up and I said no way, I want to enjoy them for awhile longer! ^_^ We have 6 or 7 palm trees which I love too but I would love to have a couple of huge live oaks or sycamore's!
Hi,
Plantladylin, I noticed that you grow some of your plants in glass containers. I had never seen it before. Do they work well? Why do you use them instead of the "normal" plastic pots?
all the plants and flowers in the photos look great!
Thanks Kim! I didn't know the Columnea got woody branches like the Nematanthus. It sure didn't look like kalanchoe or jade to me but it's so hard for me to tell. Sometimes I can just stare at a plant and know I know what it is but can't for the life of me remember it! Getting old!
Kim..........please go back to my post of the gorgeous cuttings that Nan sent. I think you are getting some, too. What is that plant? Thanks
Oh sorry Gail, thought you saw my post above. Your cuttings are:
Nematanthus Champagne Jam
Beautiful leaves!
Kim
Love Charlotte & Emily!
WOW Susan, you sure are growing! I can't believe how FAST your streps have grown! Mine just sit and sit and sit! Amazing!
Kim

Oh happy happy joy joy... I am just riding today...LOL

Spider: I will stick a plant in any kind of vacant container I can find, be it glass or plastic or wood, whatever. LOL, no special reason for it. I start some small plants in glass containers and put a lid or saran wrap over top to keep the humidity up. Problem is they begin to grow and end up spilling over the top of the container. I have a few Episcia's doing that right now that need to be transplanted. These have been growing this way for a long time. I started the little stolons down in the glass and put saran wrap over the top to hold in the moisture. They are now growing out over the top and need transplanting badly. Maybe someday I will get around to giving them a proper pot to call home!
Susan that strep from me is the fantasy named Streaker. Your streps are beautiful!! There is a lot to be said for your climate and great care that they are all coming along so fast and so well, awesome!!
OK, I have got to have the full name on that "Riho" ... I'm a sucker for the ones with yellow in them and that one is a true beauty.
Kim, thanks so much on the iris tips, most of mine need to be re done because I planted them too deep, but I'm glad to hear I at least have them in a good spot with plenty of sun...
Here is a shot of my Emily and Charlotte from yesterday, I have them next to each other on my dining room table right now as they complimented each other so well.....
~Brenda
OMG Bren, I LOVE those 2! Those big fat yellow faces.........SO pretty!
Kim
Is that Strep Rhiannon? http://www.streptocarpus-info.com/tabler.html
wow Lin, you are good!
Brenda, Emily and Charlotte are so gorgeous! I don't think I have ever seen any that color with the vivid yellow, really beautiful! They do compliment each other!
^_^ I can't seem to grow them but I sure love looking at the pictures!
Lin, that looks like the one for sure, I love it! I also enjoyed your display of glass plantings. I have started to do that with the few episcias I have left and they are happy!! It's a great look too.
Yep, Kim, I love those two together, like reverse faces, one with pink and one with a lavender blue..
My sinn cardinals from Rain has finally opened up it's first blooms after teasing me with buds for so long!
~Brenda
Brenda, thank you. I have a sinningia at home that was a seedling from the Gesneriad Society that has had buds for what seems like FOREVER. The buds look exactly like that! Must be Cardinalis too :) I'll post when mine opens and we'll compare.
I keep looking at Charlotte and Emily.........just love them! You are so good with streps too Brenda! Amazing!
Kim
This is not a Gessie but I have to show a picture of the Hoya compacta I adopted from Kim. I love this plant. It had one bloom a few weeks ago. I think it's tired of being moved here and yon since it got here. But now that the deck is finished it's in it's more permanent location so I'm hoping to get more blooms before the year is over.
WOW Lin, those look SO marvelous. Thank you for sharing updated pictures of them :) I just KNEW they would be happy in Florida under your care :)
Hey, you know what? We should start a thread called "where are they now"? And we can post updated pictures of things we received from others etc. Just a thread of updates for everyone to see what the babies they shared with others look like now :) What do you all think? I think it would be fun. I know for me, I LOVE to see updated pictures and just smile ear to ear when someone posts a picture of them. I know I would love to post some "where are they now" pictures :)
Kim
Wowser! All I did was take a quick nap before packing again and look at all that I missed. You all are the greatest about sharing photos. It gives us all so many new ideas for both growing and for showing!
I love your idea Kim of creating a thread of "Where are They Now". When we trade with one another it is so much fun to see someone else growing into such pretty plants.
Great idea, Kim! A "Where Are They Now" thread sounds like so much fun! I'm gonna be watching for it!
Great idea Plantladylin,
