I can't stop laughing! Think I am CRAZY now too.. LMAO
Watch out Lucky - don't think you can get away no matter where you are.......I slowly learning that.....
OK, duck question: Are any of them a good breed to hatch, brood, then allow to live on river where wild ducks nest every year? Or too domesticated? Thinking this would have to be a project for next year; but brooding only takes about 6 weeks.........Have always wanted to add to the population here, but not those that migrate. I would be able to provide a small shelter for them (had a pair of ring-neck pheasants in it a few years ago).
tf, Are these chicks? Or eggs?
Just curious.
trust me she will not get me until i liv over there wich is realy unlikly i think i am safe over here for now
PeaFowlAnjL,
I think that with the exception of the mallards most of these are too domesticated to do well in the wild. Of course there is always that odd bird that will survive. You can buy wild mallards if you want to do those.
MollyD
As far as personality goes, can't beat the Pekins. The Runners are brave and their looks are cool. The Blue Swedish are pretty. The Black Cayugas are a bit flighty and fast. The Khaki Campbells are a duck with pretty brown lacing, and very vocal. The Black and White Magpies are also sweethearts with a calm disposition although my Magpie is unfortunately a wry-tail. Seems to function ok though. These are my OWN observations with my OWN birds of course.
PeaFowl, she has mallards available. you should call her. i mean, while you are working on your pens anyhow, you may as well make some room.......
these are chicks, not eggs. but i think they have eggs too. just have to call in order to find out, now, don't you?

Thanks all! I just may have to call. At this point, don't really want to fire up the bator, so chicks are perfect! Who knows, just may go with domestic anyway. Aunt (in-law) had some. VERY fun. Need another type of 'watch dog' anyway. LOL
Patch, the descriptions help alot. We can only tell by what we see of our own, right. I'll take that info any / every day!
yes u should call LOL
CHICKEN FAIRY, can ya come to my house?
your funny jordan..
the chicken fairy only comes if you have a phone & a credit card!
then comes the brooder, then a henhouse..
then next week it starts all over..
the fairy is a figment of tf's imagination.. it is really a wolf in chicks cute feathers.. or ducks if you prefer.
changing my phone# and cancelling all credit cards! don't want to be wolf prey
of course it's not all bad.. the rewards are many... but one really does have to be forwarned!
i was going to say u should cancell your credit cards because changing your phone number just isnt enough when it comes to the chicken fairy
thinking about moving too
wise decission
hey lucky you HAVE been taking notes haven't you?
why wat do u mean frans
well you even being way across the pond still know to cut the cards, cut the phone cord.. and ultimately move to rid yourself of the chicken fairy.
ROFLOL
frans i wasnt born here i am actual an american imegrant who fled to australia to rid my self of the chicken fairy
josh
gotto run for a bit, you guys have a great morning.
it is night not mournin
LOL.......you all are too funny!
The chicken fairy also shows up when you have broody hens sitting on eggs.....now how in the world does she get all those little cute baby chicks INSIDE the egg? lol
Christy
still hiding
I found craigs list and I wonder should I post to sell some of my chicks, the crested are 18 days old the bantams are 8 days old.
straws christy.. she uses those little itty bitty coffee stirers..
how the cf does things is a mystery to me. i only work at her bidding now and then. but you all certainly have a FANTASTIC imagination, gotta love ya!
now i relaly need to remember those duck descriptions...
jordenkj.....I can still see you........ :0)
Tia.....I don't know much about Craigslist...we live in too rural of an area to have our own I guess. If you are wanting to downsize a bit, I think it's a good idea. It would also be interesting to see how much interest for chickens there are in your area. I don't know what you would ask for them, but you could probably make some money as well. Tf is a really good one to ask about that.....is she around here somewhere?
LOL fran.....itty bitty straws!
tf....too much to remember sometimes huh? Are you at the point of pushing out other important info? lol One of those days you might just run out of room......... : )
WOW just went back to craigs list and their is an add to sell a bantam rooster for 15 bucks???????? and a laying turkey for 25 bucks.
Wow! You know, Craigslist can also be a useful tool in finding out what you can get for what you have and what others are asking. I'm sure the bantam roo was probably full grown though?
Going to an auction is another great way to also see what people are willing to pay for certain animals. Of course, a person that might only want a few chickens might not be there, so you could probably ask for more than what they sell for there. I have noticed that some people buy animals not because they really want them, but because they are in the business of selling and can get a great deal and make a fast profit. Kind of the same concept as flipping houses, but with animals.
Christy
Yea I see what your saying at flipping. They said the roo was 1 yr old.
well what kind of bantam? i may want him LOL...
you all are too funny, but hlep me remember to enjoy our chickens. my son saw a chicken in the swimming pool! so i spent the mroning helping my poor little buff batnam cochin roo warm back up. he was soaked to the bone, possible he was there all night! luckily he swam over to the ladder so his whole body wasn't immersed the whole time...
he is warm and dry now. when i was done i looked around th8inking, now what did i come out here for???
so here it is mid afternoon, i still don't have those chicks moved out...
i had another thought for you tia, i have seen there are LOTS of folks in your area that frequent that other chicken forum with the initials byc... when you are ready to staret selling, you can post it in their sale ad without being charged. so you might ought to go on over there and get yourself a cute username, like the one we talked about...
christy, please tell me you talked your husband into not PAYING for a roo chick... i fyou are going to PAY for a roo, he should be a roo not a chick!
tf
You are kidding me right, I did just join them, this lady I am giving a GP to suggested it. wow is rod sterling here. TWILIGHT ZONE. I can hear the music.
