tomato growing tips please

Seattle, WA

Hello,
I was not pleased with my tomatoes last year, and are growing several in various locations to gain the maximum of heat and light here in Seattle. This years crop is growing well and various plants are turning into "jungles" of branches and leaves. I was told to start feeding these plants with higher concentrates of "Morebloom type" ( potassium and phosphorus) fertilizers after the 4th of July and also to trim the lowest branches particularly those touching the ground to reduce the potential of disease. Does all this seem correct at this stage of the growing season?

I start feeding a bloom fromula once the first flower cluster appears and contine feeding them every 2 weeks. also i prune the vines accoring to this guide and have very good results. http://www.taunton.com/finegardening/how-to/articles/pruning-tomatoes.aspx

Hope this helps

If space is an issue and you want fewer but marginally larger tomatoes, pruning is helpful. I only prune to removed diseased leaves. Bloom boosters have a place but if you have a number of plants, getting a soil test is the best and most economical route to follow.
