I was told by an old feller that he, his father and grandfather all used bantys in the garden to control insects. I have bought and raised some bantam, but I am afraid to put them in the garden - I would hate for everything to get eaten up by them, but I would love it if they would eat all of the insects. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it? I have a normal vegatable garden with just about everything in it- I am not as worried about the larger plants like the tomatoes and squash and corn, but I am worried more about the lettuce, bush bean and peas- any advice is helpful. Thanks!!
Bantam Chickens in the garden
I can't advise on a vegetable garden, but I haven't had any trouble in the flower beds. There are far fewer insects but no damage to the flowers or the leaves. Mine love tomatoes, so it's hard to say what they'd do set loose with them. You might want to post your question on a chicken forum. They have lots of advise on lots of things.
