Summer Lilies 2008 Pt. 4

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Maxine, I sure love those noids! Again, those blended, sunset tones are just so lovely to my eye. That 2nd one looks like it could be one of those linked below.

Goldfinch, your pink-yellow blend no id reminds me of 'Kiss me Kate', but may be a bit too short. Also reminds me of this one I have, posted below, that I think is Coral Sunrise:

or possibly Coral Sunset:

I received this no id fro Brent&Becky's in a bag of 'Backhouse' martagons. When they started up this spring, I knew one of the 5 was definitely wrong- no others look like Martagons. This lovely coral bloom showed up and I love it!

This lovely butter cream colored lily showed up in a bag of peach ones (that I no longer remember the name of), but offers such a pretty contrast with them. I call the clump 'peaches and cream'

Lovely! Bask in those blossoms you guys. Their time is too short.

WOW! That coral bloom is a beauty!

Definitely basking, Tracie! We're having a strangely mild summer so far, which is resulting in more intense colors on so many of them- I'm getting a taste of life in the Northwest, LOL! And I had a dream come true the other day- was in my bedroom upstairs with the window open and the scent of lilies wafted in on the breeze....aaaaahhhhhh.

Pink Perfection is one I planted by the front porch to enjoy its heady aroma.

Wow, terrific blooms, everyone - you are all reminding me that there are so many varieties out there I haven't even been exposed to and several new must-haves for next year!!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

The weather sure does make a difference in the color, doesn't it? The mornings here have felt more like fall mornings as compared to summer. I like the looks of 'Pink perfection' in that weather, gemini.

New lily person here!
How do you get sooooo many blooms and such dark green foliage?

No name here. This one was covered with beetles! Shook them off. They look like Japanese beetles, but are different.

Welcome to lilies=) You'll find everyone here really helpful and very knowledgeable about lilies.

I'm no expert just a huge enthusiast but a huge part of the number of blooms is simply patience:) Most that I've planted don't have many flowers the first blooming season, but the second and third are much better. Many of the ones I planted last fall/this spring only had one or two blooms per bulb. The ones that were second season bulbs were loaded with blooms this season.

That of course is just one factor...I'm sure variety, location, drainage, fertilizer, weather and other things are important as well.

Not sure about the dark green. With mine some are just darker than others and sometimes it seems like the amount of full sun vs. partial sun/shade makes things fade a bit. In the photos the time of day/sun exposure really make a difference in the colors in the photos.

Thanks that all makes sense.
My lilies are new this year, but at least I will have blooms.
New house as of last July, nothing was blooming and by October I couldn't even find an interesting leaf arrangement for a luncheon table.
Former owner had gardens but neglected them for three years, never grew lilies(Deer)
I use Liquid Fence and WILL have lilies if it kills me.

My trumpets are in bloom now, the hot humid days have made them pop!

I know this isn't a lily, but I just have to share this picture of one of my garden guards! This is the 2nd brood in this house this year. I think they are getting used to my presence.

Llilyfan, I also have a birdhouse that is the home of house wrens.
Last year they did good. This year they deserated the nest with 3 young chicks.
Needless to say they didn't last long. So sad.
The male is trying to lure a female for a second try, no luck so far.
I love listening to the male sing all day.

dogwalker, I hope your wren fella gets a second family going successfully. My little guy has two families going right now, one in the apple tree and this one on the fence post.

These are right at the wrens' front door, a seedling daylily, Casa Rosa, and what is supposed to be Midnight.

What a great way to start the day. 'Miss Alice' is charming. 'Serena Green' shines!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

My MIdnight looks like yours llilyfan. Did it come form the co op a few years ago? I think I'm just going to call mine Pink Perfection because that's what they look like.

American Heritage is just starting to bloom today.
