sub par meaning they are wrong on the sex? I am asking cause I am in city and cant have roos :o(

Foley, MO

Well, they got half my order right (pullets), the other half was roos even though I ordered pullets. I would have had basically the same odds with an order of straight runs! Granted these were silkies, a breed not often offered sexed, but still I paid for the service!

londonderry, Australia

yeh they shouldnt offer it if they cant do see if they will give u your money back or send u some more chicks

josh

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Oh yeah, Patchouli NEEDS more chicks LOL

Foley, MO

I need more chicks like I need a hole in the head, lol ; 0 ) No, actually I've been trying to convince my "weaker half" (LOL), that I need more goats. Not going over so good. Can't imagine why....

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

trying to convice mine i need the first goat!

Lodi, United States

Today 2 eggs! One large(!) light tan and now.......drum roll.........a dark brown pullet egg! Either the Marans or the Welsummer (well, maybe the Delaware). I will post a picture later. Best chicken day ever!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

jordankittyjo you need Two goats! Goats get depressed real bad if they don't have another goat around.

MollyD

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

arent they even more happy in herds of SIX? or TWELVE?!

I could write an 'article' and you can use it to convince him :o) tee hee!

Lodi, United States

Oneanjl--are we corrupting you? Or you just naturally One Of Us?

These are my eggs in order of laying, left to right, and minus the two thin shelled ones. They were laid from July 1st to today. The flash washed them out at bit:0(

Tomorrow an omelet!

Maybe I am getting a little excessive about this?

Yippeee! Looks like your girls are on a roll now. Enjoy that omelet! Excessive? Naaaahh!
A bit obsessed maybe?.............: )

I still say there is nothing better that those long awaited first laid eggs!

lol... well, I guess moderation has never been one of my strong suits?! :oD
and once I get something in my head...well it just never goes away! lolol!

londonderry, Australia

are yours consistent yet or are there still breaks

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

catscan, i only have 2 cjickens laying so far, and the eggs are real small. my hubby says no goat! now whats with that?

londonderry, Australia

they should get bigger as they lay more and get older

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

i'm getting keets today. i'm so excited!

londonderry, Australia

congrats and have fun with them

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

thanks. hubby just shakes his head. has this silly notion we live in the city limits! someone stopped yesterday to ask if the turkeys running in my yard were wild turkeys. the look on his face when i said no, and then called them too me!

Foley, MO

Congrats catscan! Let us know if it was the Welsummer or Marans. I'm quite curious about Welsummer eggs and won't know for awhile as my Welsummer is still too young to lay.

Lodi, United States

Will do Patchouli! I strongly suspect the Welsummer--but I could be wrong because......

It was Buttercup the Buff Orpington in the nest box with a double-yolker! Today I caught Buttercup, dear little Buttercup, in the nest box--when I came out later she hopped out and ran toward me. In the box was a large light tan egg! So it was Buttercup and not the evil RIR all along!

I made my omelet this morning and the two larger eggs were both double yolkers! Small yolks but definitely two each--I suspect this morning's will be too.

I blew the first egg and am thinking of guilding it with vark, the gold or silver foil you buy in Indian food stores.

I even bought a really nice book about cooking with eggs--recipes from all over the world! And I have friends who want eggs--soon I will be the Egg Queen of Lodi!

Foley, MO

LOL!!! Cool : )

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Quoting:
It was Buttercup the Buff Orpington in the nest box with a double-yolker!
sound slike the answer to a game of CLUE!!!

congrats!!!

btw, i have found a mate for Cheetos [Rocky-ette]. will piock him up in three weeks or so, whenever i have a penthouse for him... he will need a name...

Lodi, United States

Exactly, tf! Just as long as it not Colby in the bushes with a shell-less.

Dorito? Pretzel? Cheezits?

Foley, MO

LOL TF : )

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

well, if i had picked out the one with the crooked foot, pretsel would be appropriate LOL...

what is the name of the Cheetos Character, the tiger?

Foley, MO

I loooove Chester Cheetah! It's not easy being cheesy : ) Natural cheetos puffs are soooo yummy!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Chester it is! maybe i should reconside and call her Cheddar instead of Cheetos? all the little offsprings can be cheetos LOL...

Foley, MO

That would really be adorable!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

I stuck a dog kennel with hay inside out in the chicken yard. The girls are having fun checking it out. Just trying to inspire them to eggness. Or is that 'egging them on' ?

MollyD

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

you rea enabling them LOL

londonderry, Australia

Cheddar/Cheetos/Rocky-ette will be a good brooder

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

brooder or breeder? how do you know, becasue of her breed? just curious...

and, i guess i should have catscan's opinion before the name officially changes.

btw, it seems Pecky talks most when there is an egg in there! after she lays it they just roll it all over the place and scratch it up, it's a wonder i can find it in their 5 inch deep bedding!

now to figure out who else is laying. got 8 pullet eggs today.... Cheddar, Chuck, P, B, &R, Nancy[Annie], & two others. either Applesauce and TInyTwo, the oldest buckeye pullets, or Mine-O and Road-i-o the two Leggy Giants...

tf

londonderry, Australia

woops i ment to say do you think she will be a good brooder sorry my bad typo

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i don't know enough about RIRs... i figure i will just send fertile eggs to whoever wants some. i really don't want to riase them. but Cheddar is from Meyer, and Chester is from Privett. so they should make good cheetos...

Lodi, United States

And Cheddar is very pretty.....

Lodi, United States

Another dark brown pullet egg--with very dark brown spots. Is is lovely. I now think it is the Marans because she is sitting in the nest box. Such pretty eggs.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i know the hen is poretty, hope you mean the name is OK? what was it origianlly again? maybe i could go back to her previous chees name...

Lodi, United States

Of course it is a great name! It was her original name--her sister is Colby:0). I think Cheddar is a prettier bird than Colby--deeper red and shinier. I hope you can find good homes or recipes for her eggs!

londonderry, Australia

there is a lot chese going around at the moment
