Squash / Zucchini - blossoms not setting?

Beaver, WV(Zone 5b)

I have 2 Zucchini plants and one crook-neck summer squash. One of the zucchini plants was off to a good start, the other two have bloom that keeps falling off. What different things cause the bloom to fall off? (I am in zone 5b, we have had temperatures in the 70's and 80's. Last week was in the 60's some, some rain)

You need bees to pollinate the female, or you can do it yourself. Alot has been written about this in the vegetable forum.

Its common for young zucchini plants to only produce male flowers at first. These will fall off, so Just give them a little time. Also, once you start to get females it's a good idea to hand pollinate them. As the fruit sets keep them watered.

Thanks, You learn something every day. I have already harvested zucchini from one plant. The others are way behind and they are in the same spot essentially. I'll watch, try to hand pollenate and see what happens.

Again, thanks!!!

Speaking of squash, I am growing patty pans this year but I don't have much experience with them. Mine are doing very well but I have a lot of fruit that are grown together, like siamese squash. Is that normal for patty pans? In the photo, the two fruits on the left are actually grown together on one stem.
