Hi all,
My M-I-L is growing vegetables in containers in NJ and she is puzzled by the lack of production. They haven't had much rain so she has been using her tap water. She has a well and they use a water softener. She is wondering if her "softened water" could be affecting the vegetables' growth. Has anyone experienced this, or does anyone have any tips on the subject?
can water softeners inhibit growth?
The most common softeners are designed to take out lime(calcium) or iron.I would think they may take out other trace elements also. Her softener should have a bypass valve which she can turn when watering her plants. She will have to let the water run for a bit to purge the softened water from her lines.I hope this helps.
Thank you for the information! I will pass that along. Have a great day.
Tell her to switch to potassium chloride, or by-pass.
