Warm weather is all relative though. I'll take the 85 or 95 any day and CA get hotter for longer than it does up here.
Another Hot spell
zhinu, I don't mind the commute - had worse. Shorter distances & not going anywhere fast at all. Seattle & CA Bay Area were horrible! This way, I move & get to come home everyday to the country. I love the last part of my drive - get to see lots! Having that many kids around at those ages would drive me bonkers! You definitely DESERVE to get out!! Nice drive in the country maybe?
BeaHive, same exact reasons I left CA - And I am with you 100% on the temps. Feel much safer here & more seasons than just spring & summer......... Didn't we all have snow in like Apr or May?!?!
Grass is always greener on the other side, huh?
PeaFowlAnjL - I lived in Fairfax, among other places, where did you live?
Gee, after all that talking about theft. I live at the bottom of a hill at the end of the road. I have woods on two sides, a neighbor's backyard fence on one side, and good friends and neighbors on the other.
When I got out to the truck today, I saw that someone had gone through the storage compartments. There was nothing to take. Then, when I got to the store, I realized that they had stolen my 5 gallon gas container full of gas that I had gotten on the way home from work last night.
Apparently, somebody is parking at the top of the hill and then coming down the road and checking the houses on the way. Grrrrrrrr. Got gas again tonight, but made sure to put it in the garage and made sure to lock up the car.
I'm sure it's kids (most adults around here really have too much to do in their yards to be wandering around looking for stuff to steal). Would love to have heard them and had a Rottweiler to send out to make them wet themselves. They need to learn some respect.
My house is still 77 degrees and I want to go to bed, but I don't sleep well in the heat.
LA area -- mostly Rosemead. Grandparents lived in E. LA. That was in the 60's & early 70's. Yes, I know and experienced some of the "Colors" gang stuff. Part of the reason I think parents got us out of there. Then to SF Bay area (Newark / Fremont) 70's to 1988 not to far from Fairfax. In my mid twenties I got SMART & got out. Been in W. WA 20 yrs now and absolutely LOVE IT. Everytime I go for a CA visit, I wonder why I wanted to. So busy, no space, TOO many people everywhere & all of them seem to be angry.
Definitely Katie! Your probably right -- teens looking for gas so they could go party or something. Rottie would have done nicely. The bark alone would have gotten their attention! People tend to steer clear of me when walking mine, although when excited, the worse she would do is knock you over & lick you till all sloppy wet! LOLOL. Course, no one has ever dared to do anything to test her guard responses.......
I'm there with you. Gonna try with the fan right on me. windows are helping with the light breeze. needs to hurry though.
I can't have the fan right on me, even at the hottest part of the day I get chills if I have a direct breeze on my skin. I also can't stand the sound of rotary fans; it's my fingers on the chalk board sound, especially when going to sleep. We got a non-rotary fan and I haven't had any problems with it, but it's not a lot of use to me. I want to get one of those double window fans that pull hot air out and pull cold air in. I wonder if they make them non-rotary?
It just makes me mad that people steal! I worked hard for what I have (mostly, we all do) and it just erks me that some people think it's OK to take what they want. I like the idea of a Rottweiler lol. I do have motion lights all over, so at least I can see if someone is out there while I'm up, but once I go to bed I just have to hope the lights scare them off. You need a tall ladder to get to them, so not so easy to knock out. Hee, hee, hee, I watch that show too. OK I've vented enough.
Got to 95 on my deck today, I did inside stuff again. Didn't go out to water until 8:00 pm. still hot, but tolerable. We're getting new garage doors soon and I really need to get into the garage and straighten things up, but not today.
Katie, sorry to hear about the gas being stolen. Last summer our neighbors told us that part of their garden hose had been cut off and taken. They also said that the tarp over the back end of their boat had been cut. We figured someone cut the hose to siphon gas and were looking for a gas can on the boat. We all got locking gas caps on our vehicles after that.
tcnmb, I'm sure glad we don't have humidity like you folks on the east coast do! One time my DH and I went to PA in August. Oh my! I'd never experienced anything like that before. Couldn't believe the water dripping off of us after stepping outside the hotel. We were geocaching so we had some papers with us. The paper got soaked just from being outside!
Ahhhhh...Its 80 degrees already. I thought it was only supposed to get up to 81 today. Officially, it's only 71 degrees, but I triple checked my thermostat and it says 80.
Today it is 87 with humidity at 56%. It is hot. Tried to pull weeds and after 10 mins was dripping wet. Guess I'll wait until this evening!!
Your conversation is like reading a book. Good reading. Used to love the heat and sun when younger. Lived in Victorville CA for a couple summers in the 50's. 113 + and loved to go walk in it. Now I stay in the house and everything just waits. 65 to 75 is good for me to work in outside.
Spooky stories about the thefts. We are having some break-in in our area also. Will need to get locking gas caps now that the price is so high. Same thing happeneed back in the 70's when gas prices soared.
88 in Silverton. at 1pm. Say it's supposed to be cooler today. Sure does not seem that way working out side. I worked in areas that had some shade..but now it is full sun everywhere. Time to catch up indoors! My Chihuahua Blossom had an emergency trip to the vets this morning. She was having trouble breathing after she ate her meal. Dr. thinks she has something stuck in her esophagus and that it will pass. She gave her some medication that should help it pass. The shortness of breath has subsided, but she looks depressed. Sleeping now, so we will spend quality time today and stay out of the heat. Poor little girl!
She's a cutie! Hope she feels better soon!
That is a coincidence. Our toy poodle Mindy, had an infection in her surgery site and we had to take her in to emergency last night. We got there at 8PM and got home after 11 PM. Hours of careful examination and testing to tell me what I had told them was wrong with her. They gave her fluids and we have a pill and an oral medicine to give her and do hot compresses twice a day. She is already feeling better.
Willowwind.. Sorry to hear about Mindy. Glad she is doing better!
It's hard when they get sick..cause they can't tell you what is wrong.
Almost like having an baby again..without the crying!!
I am NOT dealing well with this heat. I was out driving for a couple hours and now I 'm down right noxious. My thermometer says 90+, officially 87, and the high for today still says 83. Shows what they know.
93 in Silverton at 615pm.. Need to go out and do some extra watering.
Pray that I make it back inside!! No Fun but needs to be done.
Lost to many things in that last heat wave in May!
The heat wave started in May here too. But it hasn't let up. I guess this will be the norm until Sept. UGH!!
I just took a cold shower to try to help my system. I hate the heat! Give me 70-80 degrees with rain once a week. Or, give me a swimming pool.
Made it back from watering and clipping poppy pods for seed.Has cooled a bit to 79 outside and 79 in the house. My little helpers were playing with the A/C and turned it off while I was outside. Came in to a warm house..Great!! Got the A/C running now. Sure hope it cools down by bed time!
The flowers enjoyed a third cool drink tonight!
Strawberry candy daylily
Wish I had A/C it's 64 outside and 79 inside.
Think the weather people make it up some days. This stuff just KILLS me outside. And boy can I be mean when I am hot sometimes. Took care to get out of the sun as much as possible. Cooler today, yeah right! Bet the forecasters don't even go outside to see what is really happening!
Happy TRYING to sleep all ^_^
It's down to 77 in my house, I'm going to give it another 1/2 an hour and then try to sleep.
Awwwww. How are Blossom and Mindy today, ladies? Sorry you guys had to do the ER thing. I just HATE to be sitting in the ER in the middle of the night waiting my turn. I've done it too many times and it's a freaky feeling.
Thanks for asking, Mindy is feeling much better. She went in to her own vet today and was checked out. They took the fluid out of the swelling and said to continue her meds.
Willowwind..Glad Mindy is doing better. I think we are all doing better tonight. The clouds & a breeze came in this afternoon and cooled things down. The A/C is off and all is good! I even found a few tomatos that are getting red. Small cherry ones..but it is a good sign of things to come. It has been a long wait for some good tomatos!!
Blossom is a sweet heart! What a little cutie! I need one.........got a sibling?
Glad to hear both are doing better. Nothing worse than having sick 'babies'. No fun at all.. Hope they are both back to themselves VERY soon! ^_^
XOXOXOXO
Those poor girls. I'm so glad they're doing better. They sure have good moms.
OMG I am so TOTALLY IN LOVE! Look at those faces! Guessing you won't be giving one of them up, now would you? What little LOVERS!
Right straight to my heart!
So glad the little ones are doing better. I've had pets my whole life, right now it's two inside cats and one half wild that lives in our garage. Between mine and my Mom's, the vet and I are on first name basis :-).
Still hot in Eugene, got to 96 on my deck today, finally cooling off. It was 90 when I went to water at 8:00, felt like turning the hose on myself. Glad for the breezes, it makes it tolerable. Here's one of my kids.
Very cute, looks like the two I lost, but I can't tell which one it looks like more from the picture.
That first one is Gretchen, she gets into some of the most unusual positions when she's sleeping. She's very vocal and loves to be brushed. Poo is more reserved and very much a scaredy cat, people come and she's gone. Gretchen gets right in their face and wants to know what they're doing. I have to put her up when repairmen come. Ha, ha, ha.
Wow, they are cute! Pookie...... is she half manx and half ragdoll?? she sure looks like some combination of. That would certainly give her a very "outspoken" personality in a cat!!
It soulds as if I would love them both.
Sounds like my current two.
Here is Nero, very friendly. He's always around, puts up with kids, try to go outside constantly, chases the other cats, loves to sit on people that don't like cats. When my parents were cat sitting while I was in the UK he couldn't decide if he wanted to eat or get petted while they were there. He is unreservedly my cat, My DH and DSD (dear step-daughter?) would both love him to sleep with them, but if I'm not in the bed he's out with me.
I couldn't resist posting this one. It's from the Christmas before last, my DSD's new Barbie house.
