Dead-heading Canterbury Bells

Stillwater, MN(Zone 4a)

Will dead-heading my Canterbury Bells make new blooms? Also, does anyone know, or know where to look, for ideas about planting different flowers so that I will have blooming plants all summer long? I live in MN. Thanks for the help!!

Yes dead heading will help the plants for m more flowers as you are depriving them from making seeds, maybe the second flush of flowers wont be as many or big, but you should dead head as soon as you notice the flowers fade, sometimes you need to cut the flower stem off these plants or you will be standing dead heading day and night,
To extend your flowering season, you need to look out for when plants are said to flower, like bleeding hearts flower early spring and some spring bulbs are still in flower then, but things like Delphiniums and Poppies flower from may/June, Dahlias late summer, so you need to look out for books at the library or book store to look see how to have plants all summer, even at the garden center look out for a chart or plant diary to give you ideas and guidelines, do remember that from one area to the next, some plants will flower a few weeks different in times and the labels are just a guide, the soil, moisture, type of weather etc all play a part in the timeing of flowering plants, my lily bulbs are about done for this year, yet my sister-in-law in Canada has hers just starting into flower now, they are from the same supplier, the same type, but are growing in different conditions and late starts are a weather problem, not the plants fault in any way, so growers can only give a rough idea of the season for flowering, it is not a science, but there are so many differing factors, you would really need to research what and when things flower in your own area, your local garden center would be a good place to start looking and the parks department will offer help. good luck.
