First, I tried to find the correct forum/group to discuss Sunflowers, but couldn't find one. My question (this may sound very silly) is this: I bought a package of those kid friendly giant sunflower seeds for planting. Do I plant the entire seed - shell and all? Or, am I supposed to plant the entire seed/shell? LOL
Thanks in advance

Giant Sunflower seed planting
i would just plant the seed & the shell--- you will have tons of sunflowers!
They are very fast growers
Good luck!

you need to maybe stake the tall giant plants with good tall garden canes as the flowers get really heavy, make sure you give them at least a foot distance apart when they germinate and keep them watered and fed to get the huge flower heads you want, make sure the slugs and snails dont feed on the plants when they are just tiny as they love them. once the flowers are fully opened and standing tall, my grand-kids love to make funny faces on the flowers, get a pair of tweezers and pinch out the shape of eyes, mouth either smiling or sad and watch the look on the faces of all who come by and see the funny faces watching them back, after flowering is finished, you can let the flower heads dry and the birds will love you for this wonderful feeding frenzy, or dry them off and winter feed the birds on a feeder, save some seeds to replant again next summer, good luck. What a wonderful suggestion, WeeNel! I love the idea of the "faces" LOL. I have planted only 4 seeds as an experiement. I will definately stake them when the time comes. I have planted them about 3 feet apart. They are in my back yard, so no one will see them but me. I can enjoy the faces though!
:D
