Hi, my garden is more lush this year than ever, big lots of growth on my perennials ... but I am seeing a huge amount of what look like ordinary house flies in the flower bed. Buzzing, sitting on leaves, dive bombing my head... are they regular flies? I read an article that they pollinate? Are they good or do they do damage of any kind? Thnaks
Flies everywhere...
The only time I've seen a lot of house flies is if there is something dead lying around. I've not heard that the common house fly pollinates anything, they carry disease. You have to make sure first that they are indeed a common house fly.
Do they appear to be a little larger than ordinary house flies? The could possibly be deer flies which will dive bomb you every time you go outside. If that's what they are, they are short lived and should be gone in a few weeks. Ours are almost all gone down here. We also have horse flies which are even bigger and worse that the deer flies. Both will give you a nasty bite.
