Our city, Thousand Oaks CA offers free rough mulch that has chopped up eucalyptus in it, Will this harm plants? Would it be OK to place some in compost bin? Thank you!
Eucalyptus OK in mulch? compost?
The eucalyptus in mulch would be great..........it is used in insect repellents. As to the compost, I'm not sure if it would affect the worms, you wouldn't want anything to happen to them. Your county extension agent could possibly answer this one.
Thank you so much for responding!
Eucalyptus has allelopathic properties which when it's growing will prevent other plants from growing under it. I'm not sure if the mulch would have similar properties, but I'd definitely research it a little more before you go putting it all over your garden.
