flowering too early??

Steubenville, OH

I transplanted some pumpkin and squash plants a couple weeks ago. They are not very big now, maybe four or five real leaves, but they are flowering and some of the summer squash are already developing. Is this normal? I'm concerned the plants will put too much effort into this intial effort, and then won't produce a very big harvest. Should I pull these blossoms and let the plants develop more, or is this fine? Thanks for the help.

I have the same question - hopefully someone will come along with an answer :)

I would pick them off. Squash do not tranplant so well.

Your choice, but a stunted transplanted squash rarely recovers to a full size plant. They are not very flexible.

Farmerdill is right. If you direct sowed right next door.. The seed would outgrow the transplant within a few weeks.

I purchased my plants put them in the ground and they did get a little punney and hubby put some fertilizer down and they are giving me more than I can eat. It was 10-20-10. When my small ones started putting off fruit they didnt make and I picked them off. Now all 9 plants are going good and strong. I am harvesting about 5-10 squash every other day now. I planted mine in mid may in Zone 7
