Earth Star Bromeliad losing color

Champaign, IL(Zone 5b)

I just got one of these from Walmart, at least I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Anyway, I know they like sun, so I set it on my front porch where it maybe gets half a day's worth of sun, probably sometimes dappled sun. The thing is, since I've moved it there, it seems to be getting "bleached out" in areas. I know sun is supposed to make the colors deeper, so what's going on? I know its getting more direct sun now then it was at Walmart, so what am I doing wrong? Also, some of the older, bottom leaves have dried up and fallen off. They didn't look too healthy at WM, so I'm sure that's why they're falling off....but it sure is acting like its getting too much sun. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks

Even if something can take a lot of sun, if it's used to shadier conditions you need to gradually adjust it to more sun, if you just throw it in the sun it can sunburn, that's what it sounds like may be happening to yours.

Thanks, ecrane. It's been there for about a week. I didn't think it would be too much sun for it starting out, since where its at it probably doesn't start getting sun until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. It's on my porch, so it kinda gets dappled sun at times because of the banister. So, should I move it to a location with less sun, or since its been there for awhile, would it be best just to leave it where it is since it may already be in the process of acclimating?

I have a couple of the pink Cryptanthus and I know the ones in full sun end up turning very pale in color. When I move them back to a shady area the color darkens.

Hmmmm....so maybe I'd better move it to a shaded area then......thanks!
