I need a good PC garden journal thats cheap or free.

Canvas, WV(Zone 5b)

It's getting to the point where I now forget what was where from year to year. (not that I ever remembered that well).

What I need is something that allows photos, information and the ability to place my own comments in the journal. I also need a way to map my yard and garden beds with locations and keys referring to the journal entries. The mapping function just needs circles of different colors that are adjustable to indicate coverage. The colors would indicate different blooming times in the beds. The addition of ponds and contents and architectural features would be of great help.

If anyone has any ideas it would be of so much help. This is one of the best garden sites I have found maybe we could get together and help generate ideas of what we need and then with us chipping in Dave's garden could commission software to sell or give away as with the purchase of a membership.

Thank you,
doug

DG has a journal feature, you'll find it if you go to the "my tools" tab at the top of the page. I would definitely recommend reading the links about how to get started, otherwise it can be a little confusing. And it doesn't have the mapping feature you're looking for, but honestly I don't know of anything that does--you can buy landscape design software that does that part, but most of them don't have journaling capabilities to keep track of what happens to the plants after you plant them. Plus I've found most of them a little deficient on the number of plants they have in their databases. Some people have done really nice garden maps using the Paint software on their computers, they just draw in the different color circles themselves, then you can put text in to indicate which plant is which. You'll still have to keep the journal separately though in that case.
