Astilbe not blooming??

Wyandotte, MI

I planted an Astilbe in my garden 2 years ago, it is in partial shade and it seems to be doing very well, as far as the greenery is concerned and is growing and getting quite large. Only problem is that the red plumes did not make an apearance this year, yet.....(southeast Michigan). Any ideas?? I did search around on the internet, but found no answers and ran across Dave's and of course joined, what a great place this looks like, can't wait to lokk around more. Anyway, thank you to anyone who may have some helpful suggestions or answers!

I'd give it a little time yet--they bloom in summer which is just now getting underway so it could be they'll come along and bloom in the next several weeks. I also think there are earlier and later blooming cultivars, if yours is one of the later ones I think they don't typically get going until sometime in July.

I had the same problem last year, but this year's bloom was excellent. I did have an insect problem the year without blooms so I half assumed that they were eaten. I also find they take a long time to root in so if you moved them, that might explain it. Not much of an answer, I know. In any case welcome to dave's garden, an amazing resource and community.

Thank's you guys!! I will keep my fingers crossed that it is just too early yet.
It is the original place that I plated them, last year they did bloom, not very many blooms, but at least it bloomed. I planted them in a corner of my garden near my front window and front porch and was hoping they would have lots of beautiful red plumes to cover up just a "little" of that corner. I cannot believe how well and healthy the leaves look, I just hope the blooms like just as awsome. Again, thank you!!!!!

Is it close to the foundation? If so, stick your finger in there once in awhile to see if they are getting water. It can be very dry next to the foundation.
