Hi,
I rescued this dracaena from a friend. She said it fell over and all the leaves got bent and mangled, so she lopped them all off. Will this recover? What should I do with it?
Thanks!
Any hope?
They're pretty tough, it still looks nice and green so I suspect it's got a good chance. The most important thing you can do at this point is water properly--these plants don't like wet feet, and since it doesn't have much in the way of leaves it's not going to go through water as fast as a plant with all its leaves would, so be really careful to make sure you don't overwater.
I agree with Ecrane, it looks still healthy even though it has no leaves, it will soon send out new shoots from the stems and foliage will soon cover the bare stems, but you need to be patient, you will notice tiny little bumps appear on the stems first, this is the new shoots forming, it need little water, just enough to make sure the soil dont dry out completely, and maybe a liquid feed when you water, but not every watering, just maybe once a month till it gets going again, a tomato feed or for indoor plants at the strength on the bottle will be strong enough for it to build up more growth again, if you have not re-potted it, maybe this would be a good time to use fresh new compost for it as it has less foliage to stress the plant, dont sit it in bright sunlight but enough to give it enough light to promote new leaves and growth, good luck, be patient and I'm sure it will reward you well. WeeNel.
That looks like Dracaena Marginata 'Tricolor' and yes, it definitely is a keeper! It will be just fine.
Here's some Plant Files info for your plant: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59787/
