I am fighting a large patch of bamboo in my back yard, I am actually gaining ground on it, however, I am wondering something.
I have heard that if you put plastic over bamboo it will eventually die out. If I was to dig out what I can and then put landscape fabric over the area will this prevent the bamboo from growing or is the bamboo so resilient that it will merely push the fabric up?
bamboo
Cut the bamboo down then put down heavy duty landscape fabric, not the plastic stuff. Use landscape pins to hold it down and cover with 3" of mulch, and cross your fingers. You don't want any light or moisture to get to the bamboo for quite a while, months even or over winter. Good luck.
if I use the landscape fabric, wont it allow moisture to get to the bamboo?
You're right, landscape fabric will let moisture through. If it's necessary to prevent moisture from getting through, then you really need to use plastic instead.
I can't think of the stuff my DD uses at the nursery. They use it between the rows. It's a very dense landscape fabric. Nothing gets through it except air so the soil underneath doesn't get sour. I'm going to see her today and ask what it's called.
well I covered the whole area with black plastic sheeting. Time will tell.
