Good intentions...but not enough action!

I'm sitting here looking at all these seed packages that I have purchased thoughout the years and I'm thinking there is no way I will be able to plant all of these plants in my lifetime! I must be sick. Most packages aren't even open, but just the anticipation of the possibility of planting them next fall makes my heart skip a beat. It really must be a sickness....and the only cure that I found is to get more, so I ordered a few more seed packets this week!

How long are these seeds good for? I have been keeping them in the house, is there a specific way one should store these seeds?

It depends on what the seeds are...some are viable for years and years, but others go bad in a much shorter time period. I've run across some tropical seeds that really need to be planted right away or else they won't germinate, but for most garden variety annuals & perennials you'll typically get decent germination if you plant within a year, after that it gets a little less certain. Somewhere cool, dark, and dry is going to be the best place to store them, conditions other than those will shorten the time that the seeds will stay viable.

Bay Village, OH

We moved to this location about a year and a half ago...While unpacking a box that had never been unpacked from a previous move (yeah that happens) I found a package of nasturiums. Popped them into a planter and they grew. No flowers yet but the chipmunks are enjoying scattering them about.

Best of luck. =)

Thank you both for your reply. I'm going to plant some of these flower seeds when it gets a bit cooler and see how they do.
