I have pole beans coming up about 2 inches apart and growing up a bean cage (trellis) to save space in the garden. Germination was great! How much should I thin them out while still getting a good crop?
Thinning out pole beans?
I have never worried about thinning the plants as long as they have plenty of room on the trellis or whatever they are climbing to branch and spread out. I have always had good crops as long as the vines themselves had room to blossom and drop their pods. I would thin them if you don't think the trellis will be able to handle the number of plants or the mass the plants will put on it.
Ok, great. Thanks.
