I am looking for a SMALL tree or large shrub that can be pruned into a mock tree (no more than 7 ft. tall mature) preferably flowering which does well in the shade (less than 4 hours sun). Any ideas or am I reaching too far here? lol.
Any suggestions?
How about a Japanese Maple? I'm not sure what zone you're in so maybe you're a little too cold for them, but if your climate's OK then that could work very well for you. They come in all different sizes so you'll have to look for one of the smaller ones. It doesn't flower but I'm not sure if you'll find something that meets all your requirements so it's worth thinking about.
I'm in zone 5. Thanks I'll look into it. :)
Sambucus "Black Lace" is another possible. It has pink flower clusters in spring, followed by black berries. It can get very wide and sprawly, but I cut off all of the lower branches and any top ones growing where I don't want them. You can prune it anytime. It can also be cut to the ground each year to keep it small. It is very cold hardy.Lynn
I would google patio trees or container trees, you'll find lots of suggestions.
