moving lantana

zone 7, TX

I just thinned out my lantana, had too many too close together. They were about 15 inches across already and I broke the taproot each time even though I got most of it. Today they are in shock , a little wilted. I've given plenty of
water...what else can I do to make sure I didn't kill them?Feed them something? I have fish fertilizer and miracle grow.

No I would not feed them and be careful not to water unless they are dry.Shading them for a few days might bring them right out of it.Lynn

When I have plants that suffer transplant shock, I give them a little Super Thrive. It's not a fertilizer--it's a vitamin/hormone supplement for plants and works great. I just went to our camp and dug up 5 oak leaf hydrangeas and they were wilted by the time we got them home. I pulled off all the big leaves, potted and watered well with a little Super Thrive in the water and they all perked up great. They are still looking real good several days later (even the one I broke the tap root on).

Super Thrive sounds like a good product.I've never tried it.Also,if after a few days they are not perking up,you may have to shorten the top growth if it's heavy, much like you were planting a bareroot shrub. This helps stimulate new root growth and later new foliage growth.

I was thinking about topping it off a bit. Let it get started again. Sigh...the whole idea was to get some color in this area a little faster. I couldn't wait on the lantana
that was already there to have a growth spurt. Now I've got TWO little lantanas! Super Thrive huh?
