No idea what this is. Please help?

Brookfield, IL

Hello everyone,

I found a ton of this growing along side the house and haven't a clue as to what it is. I'm guessing it's a weed since it just sort of "popped" up... but it's almost too pretty to be, lol.

Please help. :)

Thank you!

And one last one - hope this helps! Thanks again to anyone who might know what this could be. :)

If you post it in the 'Plant Identification' forum, somebody will tell you what it is.

Can't quite tell but could be zinnia.

there are lots of ways for things to pop up in our gardens, birds dropping the seeds is one of the main reasons, but if you like it, why get rid for now, if it is a weed, get rid after it flowers and before it sets seeds, all you then do is cut off the flowers as they die and then it cant spread more seeds, good luck. I am far from being expert, but it sure looks like phlox to me.

My first thought was zinnia, too. Then, again, looks like phlox, too! When it blooms, you'll be able to tell!

I had/have a bunch of them next to my fence also - at first I thought it was a wee so I pulled them up. But now they have come back again and are beginning to get flowers, so weed or not they are kinda pretty...

I hate posts like the one I'm getting ready to make but I'm 50% SURE its phlox and 50% SURE its a zinnia.....and 100% sure I don't know for sure......:)

Inn,

My guess is that it is a zinnia. I saw this post and went out and took some pictures of my phlox. If you will notice there is a big difference in the stems of the 2 plants. Also, the veins on the leaves of the pholox go at an angle from the center of the leaf, whereas the veins on the leaves of the zinnia go from end to end.

Attached is a picture of Franz Schubert phlox in my garden.

Here is a link to a picture of a zinnia -I didn't plant any this year :( http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://s3.amazonaws.com/picable/2007/09/18/60089_Red-Zinnia-Flower_620.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.picable.com/Nature/Flowers/Red-Zinnia-Flower.46622&h=500&w=397&sz=59&hl=en&start=43&tbnid=5FAkw81tsVi9pM:&tbnh=130&tbnw=103&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dzinnia%2B%26start%3D36%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN

It kind of looks like my garden phlox, but where it is starting to bud and the growth looks like my bee balm. Good luck
