I have a ficus that I rooted in water. I someone that wants it in a trade but she's unsure of how to get it ready to ship also. It coming from FL and going to MO so it will be in transit for a few days. Do I need to put just a little potting soil on the roots or do I need to go ahead and pot it and ship it full of dirt? I've never shipped live plants and I am hoping someone here can help me. THANkS!
Shipping live Ficus, need advice

I would give it a good drink of fresh water, add a handfull of light soil around the roots and wrap the roots in bubble wrap with a tie to protect the roots, then place the whole plant either in a cardboard tube or similar, send it fastest post you can find and stick a fragile label onto the package, good luck. It is easy to ship bare root. Just wrap the roots in a moist paper towel, then put the root part into a zip lok bag with a rubberband around it to hold the moisture in. Wrap the entire thing in newspaper and put it into a small box. You should ship Priority which is 2-3 days in transit and will probably cost around $6-$7 if it isn't a huge plant. I always try to ship on Monday or Tuesday so plants are not sitting in the P.O. over a weekend.
I ship everything bare root ... saves on postage since the soil would add to the weight of the package.
Just wanted to say thanks for the advice!
