PERTH, Australia

Welcome to DAILY PICS VOL. 118. New contributors most welcome. pelletory will do the hyperlink - thanks pelle.

This is one of a pair of Pacific Black Ducks who have visited us at home each winter for several years. This species has been corrupted by domestic ducks in the Eastern States, but here in Western Australia, they remain pure.

So, for those of you who had been watching an old Oriole thread, I showed you the feeder I was getting my Mom for her b-day. Here it is. She took these great pictures from the breakfast nook and I scanned.

And here is the male.

She's been buying jelly at some of those bread outlet stores.

That's got to be one of the prettiest feeders I've ever seen. Great photos!

Beautiful photos!

Yesterday we were doing some fence work when I noticed a commotion at one of the feeders. It has removable metal trays with tiny round holes at the bottom. This poor little American Goldfinch had a toenail stuck, and was unable to free himself.

Feeder now retired..........

Beautiful duck Margaret!

I want that feeder!!

Glad you found the little guy tiger!

I had baby Downy's and baby Hairy Woodpecker yesterday evening but the pics were awful!! as the were on the far tree. and light was fading. So to make up for that I found a Gray Catbird Fledgling this morning first thing out the door!

Nice duck Margaret, they always look like they are smiling.

Posh feeder for a posh bird Mrs Ed!

Nanny, I have a baby Woodpecker too! Looks like we are all seeing WP babies, pelle too! Dull here too, sun for a while in the afternoon then it was too much glare! Sweet Catbird fledgling.

tiger, don't they look so much smaller when you get them in your hand, glad you saw him.

Must be a sight seeing those Eagles adelbert.

I had lots of baby birds around today so might put them in another thread.

The female great Spotted Woodpecker was back many times today, now I know why she was so keen yesterday. She brought her baby! So did the House Sparrows and Blue Tits!

The Jackdaw seems to make a daily visit looking for nuts, I saw it hovering trying to get to the silo a couple of days ago.

This might be a different Jackdaw, looks mean. It must have seen my through the window.

A Chaffinch turned up, they usually feed from the ground. It seemed amused by me watching it, there was too much glare when we got the sun!

Yep, you're being watched!

There was several male House Sparrows coming for nuts. One which I got pics of in the hedge row across the road over winter was well coloured with a very white breast. I thought for a start the sun glare was causing the white, not so.

The sparrow at the bototm of the silo in the last pic looks very white too, maybe a kid of his!

From this angle, the winged insect appears to be a small Dragonfly.

My pleasure, pelle.

Thanks, Nanny. This ones mate was close by at all times. I do have shots of them together. I'll see if I can locate one.

Well done tigerlily, first to pick up on the distress sounds, second to successfully free it and third to dispense with the offending feeder.

Great shots of the aerial dogfight albertcat.

Nice shots, Wallaby. You've sure captured the chaffinch's expressions so well. What gorgeous birds the Jackdaws are. They look like they are intelligently weighing up their options. Are they noted for their intelligence?

Thanks, Kim. What's happening with your charges?

What a truly exotic feeder, Mrs Ed. The fruit is so well coordinated to the colour of the bird.

Wow, what remarkably clear shots of the sparrow, Grasmussen. Beautiful.

This image is of Pink and Grey Galahs at Kalbarri, a beautiful coastal town about 600 kilometres north of Perth. They are a much deeper pink than the ones we have here.

Great photo of the swallows. No pollution where you are, eh? The air looks "severe clear".

I took this shot of cormorants (probably Pied Cormorants), at the Leschenault Inlet, approximately 150km south of Perth, a few days ago. I felt as if I was entering the film set of "Deliverance", it was so isolated. I was on my own and my imagination was running riot, expecting banjo-toting varmints to step out onto the gravel roadway. I was a bit spooked All of a sudden I encountered a bus load of elderly residents from an aged care facility, out for a barbeque lunch. Whew! So, I hope you can appreciate the effort I went to to grab this rather poor shot.
