Garden PhotosPart 15!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dawn - in your hand shot it looks like a long needle going into your thumb!

(Zone 4a)

OUCH!!! hehehehe you are right - it sort of does look like that doesn't it?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Pixie62560, Thanks, I would say from the plant files that it is. I never ordered that one. But I like it just fine.

Dawn, Love the fact that you have clematis out now too. Are these on your new pergola?

Here is Bronzaire TBI. Patti

bbrook no I wish these were the ones on my pergola - there are my babies that are now at least 3 years old! The ones on my pergola are still spindly looking LOL...

Gosh I love that colour of your flower!!! So pretty!

Dunkirk, NY(Zone 6a)

Noid rose. My mother planted these years and years ago. I think she dug them from our last house, and this year has turned out to be an extra-spectacular one for these.

They're always heavy bloomers, but this year is exceptional. These are very fragrant and all I do with them is cut them back twice a year. I need to give them a good cut back at the end of this season, though. Some of these are over 5' tall!

Another Big Lots noid $2.50 special. It, like all of them, were labeled with a named rose of a different color. I don't know if they all reverted or if they were all just screwed up. This one is nicely fragrant and has very nice foliage habits.

Yellow loosestrife. I know a lot of people find this to be very aggressive, but here it just forms nice, attractive clumps.

MsFab, Love the mystery yellow and the price. Dawn, I hope my three year old's do so well for me this year.

Here is Allium schubertii looking as if it had hat hair. Patti

Another new Allium for me this year is Allium firmament which is just opening. I planted 5 and only one has appeared. Not happy. Patti

You know when I first realized they were yellow, I was disappointed, but I got over that very quickly! I love big old fashioned roses! I need to move my allium - the pachysandra is going to kill it all off. Anyone have any luck doing allium from seed?

These are almost finished.

Patti, Don't you love the Schuberti? Every time I look at mine I think of fireworks.

Dunkirk, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll bet they'll surprise you next year, Patti.

This peony is REALLY a mystery. It just appeared in a bed of peonies after I dug some others out. I don't know whether it's a grafting/reversion issue or if it's from seed crossed with the deep magenta ones (not fragrant) and white/pink edged ones (fragrant) or what. I posted about it here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/861989/ It's is one absolutely gorgeous peony, and the fragrance is HEAVENLY!

Victor, your garden is so far ahead of mine for bloom times. Nice shots and you all have me drooling over clematis. No fair.

I am going to take a better look tomorrow as they may be lurking in the day lilies. Here is Spiced Tiger TBI. Patti

Very nice Iris, what plants do you compliment with it.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks, It is in my only theme bed which is "chocolate" All the blooms or the foliage is in shades of browns, blacks, rusts, ivory, honey, tan, creams, toffee etc. Not a total success, but kind of fun. Here are a few recent ones. Patti

Great theme idea,everything looks great.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am hoping that all the many bronze and dark purplish black foliage plants hold it all together. I truly find it is the foliage in the garden that is what I now work with all most more than the bloom color. The flowers are so fleeting that unless I like the foliage mixture it is just a green blob. Though I would be happy with just green over no garden any day. I would have planted this new geranium 'Orkney Cherry' for me in that bed, but the bright pink blooms would scream at the iris blooming now. Patti

Another piece of priceless info.
Now I know why I loose interest in the garden after July.
I am trying to be more concious of different leaf styles as you pointed out. I will definatly keep this uppermost in my mind when purchasing plants.
Guess It came to me when buyinh Hostas, I preferr the verigateds and colors to the plain green leaves, Deer eat the flowers here so In tend to keep the blooms trimmed.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

ge1836, I am finding I am looking for more variegated and odd leaf colors more and more aside from trying to mix up the foliage shapes. It is hard for all those day lilies clumps. I think I never knew how many different shapes and colors of were available on Asiatic and oriental lilies, but many sellers don't feature that information. I love the ones that have the reddish tinge.

I am starting to have some lily blooms, but the rabbits got some too. One bed wiped out. But I still have many. Here is 'Lolly Pop', which they got last year, but not this one. A hawk got one of the rabbits two days ago and was enjoying it in the front yard. I hope he comes back for more or at least the others took note. Patti

Patti your Brown Lasso that I thought looked like Edith Wolford but you didn't purchase one with that name......could it be "Stairway to Heaven" ?

I just came back inside from walking the front garden. Found some pretty things there ...
