Which regional gardening forum do you all post on? NE or midwest? I don't see any of you on there when I lurk . . .
Attention IL/Chicago gardeners
Nevermind . . . I looked a little more and saw that we're included in the OH River Valley forum. Duh. :)
Is there any reason why we can't start an IL/Chi regional forum? Something to include the Illinois, Vermilion and Wabash rivers. No reason why IN and WI members couldn't join. The ORV is 100 miles from me; 300 for you.
Gary
Sounds good to me. How would we go about doing that?
If you want a new forum, you have to post a request in the Dave's Garden forum, and anyone who's interested can go over there and express their interest. The admins keep an eye on the request thread and decide if there's enough sustained interest to create a separate forum. The trick will be to first of all demonstrate interest, but then also provide some info around why you don't fit into one of the already existing regional forums in that area. I noticed Upper Midwest and Michigan which probably have very similar climates to yours as well as the OH River Valley one that you said people are hanging out in currently, so it seems like there's already pretty good coverage in your part of the country, and that may make your job a little tougher than if there was absolutely nothing in your area and you were clearly different either geographically and climate-wise from any of the existing forums.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Since climate is more of a factor than geography there is little need for another forum. Geographically I figure I'm too far south and east to be Upper Midwest. Climate-wise it's a toss of the coin whether I'm 5b or 6a. The OHRV is probably nearest to me as far as climate goes. Whenever I think of Chicago or Michigan I think of "lake effect" although that's only a factor during winter.
After all, the reason we are here is the hope of learning to be better gardeners. If we have another agenda as important we wouldn't have subscribed here for it.
Gary
Well said, Gary. I think I'll lurk a bit longer in the OHRV forum and try to get to know some folks over there. See you there!
