I bought a buddliea (butterfly bush) last month. It bloomed on a couple of stalks and now they are finished. Should I prune the dried flowerstalks now or should I wait for some more time? Will that produce more branches? No idea how this plant behaves. Help.
Buddliea-pruning
i spend alot of time deadheading mine to keep them blooming.
I dont prune mine until early spring. You can grow them easily from seeds in case you want more.

Dinu...Don't know your zone or which Buddleia you have...but this is a big plant be ready to prune it hard. After I planted mine, I started pruning to build a nice framework (shape). Now (3yrs later) in the early spring I cut back those branches to within an inch or so of that woody section of branch, about 12 " from the ground. I also try to keep it open...prune out anything that is crossing or congested. Mine, alternifolia, blooms on new wood...so even with all that hard pruning it blooms its head off! It is a very easy going plant...mine is not in full sun but blooms anyway and it is drought tolerant. I deadhead mine...when I have time...just so it looks better. They really are great. Dee

Dinu
Your zone is not listed
Here in zone 6 we prune our Buddelia's right down to the ground leave 6-8" in early to mid-April.
Hope that he;ps

Dinu just snip off the dead flower heads and you will get more blooms. Prune hard, as suggested above, in the Spring!!
