Bell peppers

Brooklet, GA

Help! I am new to vegetable gardening and my bell peppers are comming along but the leaves on one of my plants have started to turn yellow and fall off at the bottom of the plant . Can anyone tell me why and what I should do ?

Are you watering enough? In this heat and drought they could be drying out to fast.

Thanks maybe that's it . I will put some more water to it and see if that helps.

It could be an iron deficiency...........have you fertilized since you planted?

No I have not put any fertilizer out and the only thing that I put down was a 10-10-10 when I first started.Should I do any more at this point?

All veggies need to be fertilized during the growing stage. For bell peppers I don't remember how often. Your county extension agent has information on this.

Be sure you don't use a fertilizer high in nitrogen as it will cause the plant to put on lots of lush green growth with little fruit. Try one of the ferts made for tomatoes and other fruiting plants (Pennington makes one). The one I buy is 9-12-12. This type of fert gives your plants just enough nitrogen to put on healthy green growth but it's heavier on the elements that help it put down good strong roots and produce fruit.
