"Be grateful--if you have a GOOD Dr.!" .....Gita, just wanted to associate myself with that comment......I've had both kinds, it's a good feeling to know you have one....

good morning, always nice to start my day with friends...

Last evening when I arrived home between the income tax and accident I came right into the house not paying attention to much, this morning as I walked the gardens my thoughts were, 'now why were you worrying about getting the grass cut, really didn't grow much?' dah, waky/waky, somebody had come and cut my grass, now that's a chore because it takes me 3 hrs...now who could it be, first guess would be friend 'Kathy' as she often drops by, think almost daily, to let Sailor out and enjoys sitting near the pond, or perhaps grandsons..feel badly now that I didn't notice, should have called to say "Thank You", will do so today..guess that's more time to play this weekend...

We're taking my car today as Suzanne will be meeting her daughter in Barrie this aft. for an afternoon of shopping so better get my things together...will post to each of you when I get to the office...

Piedmont, AL(Zone 7b)

Betty is Kathy available for consultation?......Think she could find my house?......It's easy, just look for house with the grass as tall as a giraffe......:)

Morning All,

Gita, thanks for the info. Believe me, mom is not taking any of this lightly. She's in the hospital - spent the night. The doctor told her that 60-80% of TIAs are usually followed by a massive stroke so she was very right to get into the hospital. The CT scan last night did show some signs of stroke so they are with her right now and will be doing the cartroid ultra sound. I feel much better knowing she is there and being taken care of.

Thank you all...

Paul

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeannine, prayers coming your way..for mom .. know your dad is fretting just as much as you and your family are...give him a hug for me..you are correct in saying that she's in the best place..they'll monitor her and watch her closely..sometimes we let the little things pass by when we should be concerned..we had on the news last night that they were making people more aware of what to do when signs of stroke occur but they didn't tell us what the warning signs are..will have to go check that out..

You keep care, know we're all here for you and sending prayers along with soft hugs...know it will be a busy time for you, but please update as you can...

Glenview, IL

Hi Everyone....
Wow, I have been gone all week! Reading everything when I can.

Jeannine, Adding your mom to my dailey Prayers. Gentle hugs being sent your way.
I sure will watching for updates.

Gita, Before I forget...Have a save travels. I know you will enjoy your trip. Will be looking forward to some stories and splendid photos upon your return.

Ruby, Emily is such a little beauty!! I have got to tell you she just melted my heart with that awsom smile of hers. My favorite photo is the one of her being held at the door. You must just melt to pieces when she is with you...Such a pretty princess. I was so glad to see you all had a bit of a cool down. Hoping you will be able to get your plants in the ground.

Laura, My goodness you take care. You sound pretty good concidering your ailemnets. Now you just take rest and follow doctors orders. How very exciting that you are receiving all the material pieces for your Friendship quilt. All the pieces sound so lovely.

Ruby and Laura, All your SP gifts sounds so wonderful...A great bunch of fun hearing what everyone gets. can feel the excitement. Hey wonder, oh my gosh, How fun that your DH is in the spirit of the SP exchange and hiding who the package was from. Totally adds to the fun...and the guess who. LOL I love it.

Whew, almost lost my post.

OMG Sharon...Your Daylily's are splendid!! I love your article about the Ditch flower! Wow, it is some history behind them. Now you will be leaving for AK on Monday...Am anxious, excited for you, I think it is going to be quite the Journey.
May you travel safe and behold the Beauty of nature and loving friendship.

Liz...What can I say, To tell you I am excited is totally an understatement. Like you, I am as giddy as a young one on the first day of school. I am nervous, for you want me to jump from a plane!! UHM...LOL no way uh huh,,hemna, hemna Not me...If you want i'll gladly jump in a dumpster for bowling balls and or any other trash you deem as a wonderful treasure, ROFL, will even let you dye my hair purple, (wink not really) but I AM NOT, NOT jumping from a plane. ROFL, I know I've told you I'm nuts even a little crazy, but ehem, I not insane. So, my friend Skydiving is not a go! Well, now you Tell Kenny to have a marvelous time. A safe trip and ohwah!! Catch a BIG one. Big smiles...Oh gosh, whatchya gonna do while he's gone??? Well got my C-phone, bringing charger.

Betty, I was so sorry to hear about your friend. Oh gosh, Was real bummed to hear you aren't moving closer. Not sure what happen there but yuck, i hope you get something closer to home yet. Surely is was a let down to all of you were looking forward to the move...
Well now, you have been busy in the gardens, enjoying some crafts and anticipating a little vacation. OH I can hardly wait...LoL, Yet time is creeping up so fast my head is spinning, with all my running around, going in circles and nothing is getting done! But, my house has remained in somewhat of order! As, for my gardens, man, I hope I can get them in some sort of pretty before you and Liz and now Maybe Shar...Man, I'm floating in a dream of pure happiness, No one can wipe the smile my face.

Paul, I have got to say, Your stories have brought some wonderful giggles to me in my morning reads! I really enjoy the way you tell the stories, very unique and fun. And, holy macrole...Your gardens!!! I am totally in awe. So cool you have tours!

Carol, How are you?? I know your sister has gone home. I bet you miss her already. So are you still planting in the secret gardens?

Oh my gosh...Ves, so glad you are out in your gardens as well, Some beautiful flowers you have shared!! You know I am just smiling. Your new little bed is going to be so special. A nice little place to escape and rest, maybe read and or just watch the beauty of your surroundings.

OH, by the Way...Betty! i sure love the little garden photo at the beginnning of this thread! So pretty, serene, I just want to take my book and coffee...sit back in the shade and watch the gardens grow!!

Hello...Gilli, Whats going on, on your island? Are you getting to work in the gardens? Are the kids going to have little plots too?

So, I have been busy...But as you all know i love to sit and watch my little piece of world. here is what i have observed. I have watched the little sparrows, sand bathe! I have never witness that sight and thought it quite curious and incredibly cute. My feathered friends are a bit upset as I have run out of food again! Now they enjoy setting on the wire, probably waiting for me to get my act together. The Baby Robins have enjoyed hunting the grounds for bugs and worms. it has been lots of fun to watch as they learn to fly. Momma Robins scolding, and guiding. I have enjoyed a fire each evening that it has not been windy. As i watch the flames dance I give my offering of thanks and wish all I know a good night.
The best and worst f my evening watch, i have deer who come to feed in my back gardens. Had to chase one away from deck. However, lastnight i sat in the warm breeze and watched a young female eat the weeds in the back. She has been injured, probably jumping the fence. I felt bad for her as she is quite skinny.
i could see her ribs. So, allowed her to have her fill of my weeds, she was so contempt with the smogasborg. When she was full and tired of standing she took rest in the shade of my wild tall bushes in the back of the yard. As angry as i get at chowing on my plants, How could I be angered when I have the benefit of her grace ornating my yard. Well, I got the notion of giving her some water. So I filled up a big bowl for her but all I did was spook her off by getting a little too close. But i figure she will be back...and we shall say hello to each other again. Got a photo but what else is new, batterries need recharging.

Oh Bev...I have really enjoyed seeing your photos and flowers, So very pretty!!
Also, i know, it's past but love the pics of your feathered friends. That one of the cardinal playing hide and seek just had me smiling ear to ear!

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Weekend...happy Fathers Day to all the dads, I am off to the cottage. Hoping to get to the Uper Midwest Round up...
Not sure with all the flooding in the region. Yow, prayers for the area, so much devestation, lost homes, businesses and my heart just hurts for them.

Ok have been typing for a while...You all have a good day, Happy Gardening to all.

To everyone not feeling well, Sending up prayers to get better quickly.

See you Sunday night!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, you are quite the card, always bringing a smile as I read your posts..no kidding, how can I tell you are excited??? not very hard at all..don't worry about the gardens, you'll have 2 inhouse gardeners for a few days who don't sleep much past 4:30..if they are quiet as a mouse they may achieve a few projects...

Do hope you have nice weather for the cottage and can make it to the Round-up..have you conned Steve into going..poor soul..smilling to myself when Liz said DH was leaving on a fishing trip, do you THINK Steve might want to do so as well the week that Liz and I arrive? how he'll handle all of us gabbing at the same time, jumping from subject to subject I'll never know...he's taking his life in his own hands I'm sure...(probably loving it at the same time)..

Fathers Day..just called Jim (SF) and thought I might not go straight home after dropping Suzanne off in Barrie, perhaps make a 40 mile detour, pick up a Fathers Day gift and visit for a few hours this aft. but mom has gone out for the day visiting friends who live near the cottage, Jim has friends over building new decks around the cottage so I'll pass on that..told him I have my dad's and grandfather's grave to visit Sunday, then Roger's and then will continue my trek and visit him mid Sunday morning..so it's a pick up flowers for the graveyards again today and a trip to Canadian Tire and book store to find gifts for Jim..always something..lol.. must honor the dead as well as the living..Greg will take his boys to Roger's gravesite Sunday but Jeff tends to shy away from the grave, doesn't do well even after all these years...

Know how you love nature, what a wonderful serene experience..I sure miss the deer/moose and bears we had at the farm..guess I miss those chickens and goats as well...oh well!

Crozet, VA

Hi Everyone - Oh I love the picture you took for today or yesterday Bev. That is so very pretty, it almost looks artificial.

I meant to say something yesterday to Liz who was asking about the burnt around the edges hotdogs on the grill. Sorry lady, but I think that black tastes good too. ha-ha John is going to grill a roast this evening and I had him go to the store and get another few packs of the on sale for one dollar hotdogs. This has been a whole week of me not having to prepare any meals. I might fix a toss salad today if I have the energy when I get up from this chair. Speaking of food......Betty I am so glad that you had the colonoscopy. I will say prayers that the polyps are nothing to be concerned about. Now, if they can find the bugger that is creating the bloating problems for you, you will be all set.

Shar, have a wonderful trip. I know that you are going to see some lovely sights. John has always wanted to go to Alaska. Maybe one of these days we can arrange a trip. We are looking forward to hearing all about it when you return.

Judy, I hope that you will have a good weekend at the cabin. That sounds so nice, to have a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of real life. I know that you, Liz and Betty are going to have a great time together. Won't be long now.

Jeannine, I am so sorry that your mother is having problems. Let's hope that she gets on the correct medical regime and won't experience any more problems with this. Lots of prayers going out for your family.

To all others, sorry if I didn't call you by name. I read everything and make little comments to myself and then forget by the time to post. Oh well. Oh, I did remember one thing......I also meant to ask Liz what motivated her to do a clean sweep of her home and sell a lot of the things that she has collected over the years? I need a good motivator. Do tell please.

Here we go in to the weekend. I hope that everyone will have a good one.

Ruby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ruby, are you still working on your 'declutering' project? Guess it's difficult with doing so much tramping the roads to round-ups, b.b.q's and gardening? lol

I've got the travelling bug, almost feel like a stalker, have all of you DG friends marked on a USA map in the office here, almost everyone lives either on the west coast or east coast.. on the east coat, I could have a ball just visiting everyone for tea here and there as you all live relatively close to each other...might have to make another outing...lol..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

--forgot the gulf coast Betty! I do love a good cup of tea!! Learned that the year I lived in London.

Crozet, VA

Betty, I might hitch a ride with on the way down to the Gulf Coast to visit abbisgranma. How much fun would that be? You could definitely do Jeannine and I at the same time because we are not too far apart at all, but neither of us has done anything about possibly seeing each other. That will have to come after gardening season though. Betty, I did what I could with what I had last winter in terms of de-cluttering. I have a very small house and just don't have enough room for all of my treasures. I would love to have the guts to get rid of whole lot of stuff. I guess that I am the product of living with a depression era parents. I have a hard time getting rid of things. Maybe someday a bell will go off in my head and I will be ready to tidy up a bit like it seems that Liz is doing.

Maybe after the gardening season is over, I will begin another attempt for de-cluttering. Truthfully, I don't think that much will help until my youngster decides that he is mature enough to get a place on his own. We will see.

Well, it has been a busy day for me today. Almost ready to wind down for the day and go veg in front of boob tube. I hope that everyone will have a good weekend coming up. Betty, try getting some rest if you can.

Ruby

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Ruby come on down!! Understand about getting rid of things. I am trying really hard to declutter but it is going very slowly! Save boxes and boxes of hubby's things and just now beginning to realize they really aren't worth saving. Kids have items that were the most significant to them. So lately I have been removing others.

Haven't even thought about getting to my sewing/craft items yet. That will be a long drawn out process I am afraid. In the meantime, I have to much fun in the yard to really work at cleaning/decluttering.

Crozet, VA

Hi Abbi - Did your husband die recently? We have several others who have lost husbands too. Maybe after all the fun outside gardening stuff is done for the year, we can start a challenge between those of us here who have the "save everything" bug. ARe you new to Dave's or just kind of new to this thread? I don't remember seeing you in other places. Sorry for so many questions, but that is the way I learn. ha-ha

Have fun gardening.

Ruby

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Joined first of April, lucked around several site, I was attracted to this because Betty posted about some places near her that I had visited when I went to college in London. Finally jumped in--so many things we discovered have threads through our lives. My brother was a professor at University of Western Ontario and I was involved with the alligator that make it way north lo these 49 years ago.

I was widowed this September will be 4 years. Just found it really hard to part with his professional materials. Finally donated them to the Geology Department at Valdosta State College. Still some items I kept that I realize now should go. Best mementos are stored in my heart and head.

Look for me in several of the swaps. I check a lot of the gardening threads but no posting--well very little.

Crozet, VA

Really glad that you post here with us. I guess it does bring up lots of memories about Canada. My husband will ask me several times a day who I am talking with. I call this group the canadian group even though there are only three or four active members from Canada on here. Betty is our fearless leader and it just seems right to give it this name due to where she especially lives. She does sound as though she is getting the traveling bug. Don't be surprised if she shows up on your door step one of these days. And I might be hiding in her trunk when comes to see you. ha-ha

I am closing down computer for the day. I hope that everyone will have a good weekend. Love you gals.

Abbis, Welcome to our family here. I am a newbie here myself and if you can keep up with all these gals and guys on here you are doing better than I am. These people go fast and remember everything!!! The only way I could make some of these long posts is to go back and write all down and then come back and type it all. Hey guys!! I am so proud that I can't hardly stand it. I know I am bragging sorry but several of my photos have been excepted in plantfiles and two of them are featured for photo.com. I am going to put on more. I love it!!!! Jumping up and down:) One of them is my clematis "Henry", then "Kousa Dogwood" and the third is "Libellula pulchella" Twelve Spotted Skimmer" dragonfly.

Congratulations. Aren't you Bev? with the doggie that was "under" the weather?

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Yes I am. He is doing ok so far. I hope I don't have to put him tthrough those treatments. If it comes to that I will give him every chance.

Lordy one can get lost easily coming home when you don't have any plans...stopped at the Innisfil Outlet Mall, of course I couldn't leave without donating money..so, found at Black and Decker a 3 way tool, scrapes old paint off, detail sander, reg. sander and can be used for drill, thought my step father might like it..needed something for fathers day..what do you get when they have everything..I know, the 2nd everything..lol..know he'll appreciate the gesture...then off to Barrie we went, went and bought some crystals to make more coolant bandana's..if it's going to rain, it would be a great project for me to do..then I couldn't drive right past the nursery, walked around, head held high, plants down low but came home with another car full..oh Ruby I'm just so excited, the had castor bean plants, about 2 to 3' tall so I purchased 2 of them, a flat of different coleus, potatoe vine and black eye susan vines..when I got home you could hear the thundering far off so got everything planted and came in..poor Sailor is going crazy here at my feet, panting and whinning..poor girl...going back Ruby to my castor bean plants, I didn't plant them as yet, just set them in a cool place, trying to decide what's better, shade, full sun or shad and sun mixture, what do you think...

As for declutering, I can relate, when I moved after Roger died and again 4 years ago I basically gave or threw out most of what I had to make a clean start so please tell me how I ended up with just as much...

Passed about 3 garage sales on the way home and talked myself out of stopping, good girl Betty..deserve a treat so perhaps I'll go to one or 2 tomorrow..lol - just what I need...

As soon as I came in Elizabeth from Ireland called me, I could barely make her out as she was crying so heavily, she's distraught about Janet getting the terminal verdict..I tried to console her as best I could, but I have difficulties with heavy accents over the telephone, hearing must be going...we've been friends for decades and I try to encourage her to talk via msn and that way no accent to contend with, sure do hope I was sympathetic when I was suppose to be, will write and send her an e-mail tonight before I retire..said I'd send her the candle sight where you light it and everyone prays for your beloved...

Marion, you know if I go to Florida to mom's at Christmas again I'm surely going to make a detour and visit with you, few others along route for tea or coffee...that will make my trip...yes Ruby, can make the detour and pick you up...

Bev, he looks great..maybe you caught it just in time...what's the weather doing in your neck of the woods, right now it's thundering like crazy..am sure lightning isn't far behind, perhaps I'll finish this post and unplug computer for the evening...proud you should be, I'm off to look at them or perhaps I'll make it in the morning just incase the storm picks up...

Walked the yard for 1/2 hr..tomorrow is weeding if weather co-operated..here's a few photo's...it truly is now starting to come alive...

Only got a few lily's since all the girls were showing their 'pretties'...

Meant to mark what these were but forgot, not going to ask again..lol...

If it stops raining I might go out this evening and take a photo of them open...

They open when the sun goes down and the flowers die when the sun rises..you also have to pick each flower off or you'll not get another the next evening...continues to bloom all through the summer...I had 3 and now I'm the proud owner of 5...hope next year they multiply even more...

Only 3 peony flowers, but it's the very first time I've had any, so it's exciting for me...some of the bushes are flowering....smoke bush has to be moved, I can see the err of my ways, it needs much more room so will wait till fall to move it..

Looks like tansy, Betty, the large plant. Does it have clusters of tiny yellow flowers when it blooms??

Victoria Harbour, ON

Back gate to the secret garden..must pick up 4 hop plants, 2 for each of the back garden entries...should have the 2nd and 3rd arch in last fall that way they'd all be vined by now..

We were supposed to have strong storms today but they didn't come thank God. This comeing week is going to be in the low 80s and 50s at night. Going camping yeehaa!! Going to dig up one of my Ventricosa hostas and plant arround the tree in front of our camper where I feed the birds.

No signs of blooms yet but it's about 4'...

Not sure you can see, but flowers have decided to infact grow and cover the entrance into my little sitting area, so I'll not disturb them, have 2 other arbor entrances so that's ok..might look prettier..the hops have even worked themselves between the gates...I keep removing them, they keep growing, and now they are into the trees...my morning glories are about 1 1/2" high..not doing anything..they are planted all around the metal cages I made, last year by now you couldn't see the cages, there were hundreds of flowers..either it's early or I was late planting...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG you've 2 places to garden and keep up..how on earth do you do it? rumbling has now stopped, maybe it will pass us by...just incase I gave everything a little water and feed..was lax this week and some of the plants, especially the hanging one in the frame, almost died, will have to purchase another..lol...

tallest plant on the right I think is a week, hate to pull it out just incase..will have to pick up Aunt Muriel and have her come and name my plants..I've a zillion little rocks, could paint them and write plant names on them..now that's an idea for Sunday...right...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for keeping me company, Sailor is now resting and it's time for a bath..still early so just might take out my sewing machine and make some of those bandana coolants, I could use one myself...lol...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

That tallest plant looks like some kind of thistle.....I love old plants like that, also the tansy.
Beautiful.
