A huge dump truck load of wood chips!

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

My dear, dear husband surprised me today with a huge dump truck load of wood chips and my six year old grandson surprised me by offering to help me move them to the places that I want them. What sweet guys I have! Now, all I have to do is pull all of the weeds, get wet newprint down and direct the wheelbarrow brigade!

Don't think you even need to pull the weeds if you're going to smother them with newsprint and wood chips.

Oh goodies galore, Kathleen! You have fun directing that fine brigade of yours!
And boy, is that garden gonna shine!

Lucky you! Are they fresh chips or bark? A year ago my neighbor & I had a huge dumptruck of fresh chips brought in from trees the Power Co. had just ground up. They were green so didn't want to dig them in til they had composted. After just a few days that pile got so hot steam literally rose out of them.. So we used them for wonderful paths through the woods and our gardens. So be careful if you put them in your flower garden til they cool or you might burn something up.

My DH got a HUGE dump truck load of wood chips for my last birthday. It was at my request, and YES, my flower gardens DO look good! Truck loads are expensive, but sure beat the $2.99 per bag that they would cost if bought one-by-one,

Hehehe, I went out between showers and put the pile of newspaper I've saving by the rose fence. Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful and in the upper 60s, just the day to do some wheelbarrowing. who'd a thought that a load of 'waste product would bring so much joy??? : )

Go Girl!!!! Wish I had another load too. You'll be amazed how neat everything will look, how proud you will be to show off your "weedless" garden.

It's been about a few months since my dumptruck load...aka mulch mountain...was delivered. I think once in a lifetime for a load is enough...lol. My DH finally gave in and helped and we moved trashcans full of the free chipped bark up a slope and onto a new garden path. I laid thick newspaper right over the grass. The mulch mountains at the curbside were starting to steam...I thought it looked nice, neighbors thought otherwise, so we finished the job rather quickly. Anyway, as Kay mentioned...the gardens look fabulous now...no grass, no weeds and a soft-footed, meandering path through the flowers. It's worth the sweat and sore back-knees-arms-legs-neck-wrists..remember that..lol.
