Garden Photos - Part 14

Marlborough, MA(Zone 5b)

Victor, I am at the stage that if I don't write it down I don't remember it. Just ask my wife....what was her name?

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

I'm gonna cheat here and post a pic of my neighbor's pretty, huge Rhodies. Ever since I cut down the ugly collection of suckers around the old oak stump, I have a nice view that includes these, currently. These are probably ten feet tall.

Hey Bill, to ease your conscience, Yep these satomi here started out white and are turning to pink! I have found it to be weather dependent on whether it opens pink or white, but rest assured, it will turn pink. Sun plays a factor too in how pink it gets.... I think.

Hey Victor, well I have an update on the weather over here for you. I'm not sure if it will make you jealous of our weather or want to keep your heat wave. Well, to sum it up, the Downhill Skii area that is 45 min. up the mountain from me is opening back up for the weekend! It closed in april right around the little heat spell, but late April is usually about when it closes anyhow. This is the first time it's ever opened again in June! Raining at my place, but when we got to our work site this morning it was about 41 degrees and a couple of inches of snow. It did melt farely soon (I was still an ice cube for the day), but we're expecting to see it again tomorrow. However, it was a great excuse to build a small bonfire at lunchtime! But, they say that we're supposed to get to "near normal" temperatures by the end of the week. Wahoo!!!

OOOPS
I have a question about the Clems you grow into your shrubs.
Do you grow the type clems that die back each year so you can trim the shrubs without working around the clem vine?
How you do dat?

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

'Black Lace' finally bloomed, yeah!!!

Most of the shrubs don't get trimmed. I use mostly type 3's, which get pruned back hard each, but have used 2's as well. Here is a lacecap hydrangea getting ready.

Love the soft blue delph Victor. Mine (not yet blooming) is a deep blue which I also love, but yours is very nice.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Deb. I have a deeper one too. Like them both.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love the blue, but you knew I would! That yarrow is very nice...I like the color. I can picture it with the dark Vesuvius climbing around or near it.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Victor, which delphinium is that? I can't tell if it's one of the pacific giant's or the more moderately sized one's. Either way it's great. I wish that I could but that and my blue poppy together something.

Thom that pink ruffles is really nice, I actually think that I like it and royal wedding better than the orange ones.

Onewish, is that variegated coral bells the one called snow angel or something like that. It's one of the plants I've thought about for a long time.

Flowerjen, if it's any consolation.... almost all of my asiatic lilly's are noids! for some reason I can usually remember the orientals, trumpets, etc. but, rarely the asiatics. go figure!

Bill, my satomi gets full sun from about 8-11 am and then again from about 2 until 7 pm. this is just my opinion but I think that in more mild or temperate areas the they can take a little more sun than they're usually given credit for. There's an area that I work by fairly regularly where the forest overstory burned in a forest fire, but the understory that was primarily dogwoods and vinemaples, wasn't hardly affected.... until the sun hit them. Long story short, amongst the dead sticks for the last few springs it has been an amazing show for the native dogwoods! Unfortunately I didn't have a good fewpoint of it, so I didn't take a picture of a broadview when I was there. Some of them have been reblooming in the fall, which is really uncommon.
