Columbine

My columbine have bloomed and the pedals are starting to fall off already. I hear that you can cut the stems and there will be another blooming. Where exactly do I cut the stem? All the way to the bottom or should they be up a little more on the stem?

Leave some of the flowers on there to dry out and produce seeds. Just cut the stem the flower is on. I very seldom get rebloom on my columbine, but you can give it a try. Maybe late in the summer or early fall you'll get a flower or two.

I think it depends on the variety. My Golden Queen blooms from spring till frost as long as I cut off the dead flowers. If the plant starts looking ratty,I cut it back too.Within a few weeks it will be back and again in bloom.Lynn

Lynn,

When you say to cut the plant back, do you mean to the ground? Otherwise you just cut off the spent blooms?

Usually,I just cut off the spent blooms, but it seems like every year the plant starts looking a little ragged midsummer.I then cut the whole plant back. Not to the ground, just a good haircut. This revives my plants and starts them blooming again.Hope this helps.

I would fix it,but I can't figure out how to delete them.I was at work and the mouse on that computer sometimes sticks and makes the screen jump up and down. The only thing I can think of is that it got stuck on the send button.
